After being thwarted in a suicide attempt in a London hotel room, R&B singer Houston gouged his own eye out.

On Thursday Houston attempted to jump out of a 13th-floor hotel window but was stopped by his security personnel, sources close to the singer said. He was moved to a lower floor and locked in his room, where he injured himself. Additional details are still coming to light, and photographs of his injury are circulating online.

The Los Angeles native, born Houston Summers IV, was overseas for a series of performances when the incident occurred. He scored a hit last year with “I Like That,” which featured Chingy and Nate Dogg and was used in a McDonald’s commercial “Houston Scores Club Hit With Help From Chingy, Nate Dogg. His debut album, It’s Already Written, was certified gold a month after its release in August.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Houston during this tragic time,” a Capitol Records spokesperson said.

Los Angeles radio station KKBT-FM’s K-Sly, who appeared in the “I Like That” video and is close to Houston’s camp, said the singer had been under psychiatric care last year for manic depression. Another source corroborated that claim, adding that Houston had also struggled with PCP.

“I was told he wanted to commit suicide and stabbed his eye out,” K-Sly said. “He was telling people he was Jesus and wanted to go home to his Father”

The singer is now back in Los Angeles.

Upon hearing about Houston, Bushwick Bill of rap group the Geto Boys felt compelled to speak out. In 1991, Bill forced his girlfriend to assist him in a suicide attempt, and she shot him in the eye. “Fame will make you crazy,” Bill said in a statement. “Fame isn’t for everybody. There are people who have a fear of fame, those who want fame, and those who don’t understand fame. It drives them crazy, because it is a lot of responsibility to be all things to all people, and you can lose yourself in the shuffle, where there are no longer 52 cards in the deck.” source

RnB Singer Houston says devil made him gouge eye out

R&B singer is recuperating at Los Angeles home

The devil made him do it, representatives for R&B singer Houston said in a statement explaining how his eye was seriously gouged.

Houston’s publicist issued a statement Thursday night denying reports that he tried to take his life by jumping from a London hotel window last week. The statement said Houston had “found himself in the midst of a spiritual battle against the evil that runs rampant in the entertainment industry.”

Houston, whose 2004 single “I Like That” was used in a McDonald’s commercial, was found in his London hotel room with a serious eye injury. He was briefly hospitalized.

“I went to check on him before going to bed and I saw blood on the floor,” Houston’s bodyguard, Marco Powell, said in the statement. “Houston was lying on his bed with a towel over his face and I removed the towel to find his eye hanging out. He said he had to get the devil off of his back and that’s the only way he could kill the devil.”

Houston, whose full name is Houston Summers IV, is a Los Angeles native. He was raised strictly Christian and was “constantly at odds with the temptations that come with success in the music business,” the statement said.

The incident prompted a statement from Bushwick Bill of the rap group The Geto Boys. In 1991, a severely intoxicated Bushwick forced his girlfriend to assist him in a suicide attempt. She shot him in the eye, but he miraculously survived.

“Fame will make you crazy,” Bushwick’s statement said. “I want Houston to know that he is in my prayers, and that I will ask God to give him peace of mind and peace of heart, and I hope his eye heals as well as his mind and his emotions.”

Houston was recuperating Friday at his Los Angeles home. The condition of his eye was not known.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ private Gulfstream jet tracked to Antigua as rapper’s properties raided

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ properties’ in Los Angeles, Miami and New York were raided earlier today, Monday by federal law enforcement agencies. The specific reasons for the raids have not been given, but are understood to be linked to accusations in a number of lawsuits, including alleged sexual abuse, assault and human trafficking. The rapper has vehemently denied all the accusations.

In the raids by armed officials, Diddy’s sons were taken into custody, but it is not clear if they were actually arrested.

Diddy’s jet tracked to the Caribbean

At the time of publication, it’s not clear where Diddy a.k.a. Puff Daddy is. In a bid to ascertain that detail, TMZ have tracked his private jet, a Gulfstream 5, to Antigua in the Caribbean.

Diddy’s jet took off from Van Nuys airport, in the L.A. area, at 9 a.m. PT flying to and landing in Antigua. The flight time is around nine and a half hours.

Is there an extradition treaty between Antigua and the U.S.?

While we don’t know if Diddy is in Antigua, if he were there and the U.S. authorities were to seek his extradition, it is important to note that they would be able to rely on an extradition treaty in force between the U.S. and the nation of Antigua and Barbuda, as part of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean Countries. It was signed in 1996 and ratified in 1998.

The treaty obliges each country to extradite to the other any “person sought for prosecution.” An extraditable offence is one punishable under the laws of both countries as punishable by “deprivation of liberty for a period of more than one year, or by a more severe penalty.”  source

According to the outlet, “he and his crew got stopped at Opa Locka” where their source said he “appeared to be aboard a separate private jet … and that’s when Homeland Security rolled up.”

That said, Diddy wasn’t cuffed, and according to the report “is not under arrest at this point.”

It also confirms beyond a shadow of a doubt that he wasn’t aboard his own private jet, which flew to the Caribbean earlier Monday.

Update (2200ET): The latest update from TMZshows Diddy at Miami’s Opa-Locka private jet airport shortly after his homes were raided, suggesting that Diddy has not fled to the Caribbean contrary to earlier speculation and remains in the US.

Update (2100ET): TMZ reports that Diddy’s private jet has landed and is currently on the ground in Antigua, though it is not currently known if the impresario is aboard.

Hollywood-connected journalist Yashar Ali reports from “multiple sources” that Diddy was not onboard the private jet, and was detained in Miami.

Questions are swirling over whether music producer Sean “Diddy” Combs has fled the country in his $60 million Gulfstream V jet purchased in 2021, after two of his homes were simultaneously raided amid a federal investigation into sex trafficking, narcotics, and firearms.

The plane, with registration N1969C (1969 was the year Combs was born), was tracked taking off from Van Nuys Airport at 1PM PST Monday afternoon. At present it’s circling St. John’s island in the Caribbean, according to flight tracking website adsbexchange.com. It’s unknown wither Combs is aboard the flight.

 

 

Two homes located in Los Angeles and Miami owned by Sean “Diddy” Combs were raided by Homeland Security Monday in connection with a federal investigation into sex trafficking, sexual assault, and the solicitation and distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms.

In video circulating online, law enforcement officers can be seen walking through the LA home with guns drawn and people being questioned in front of the home. It is unknown if Diddy, 54, was one of them.

The LA raid took place in the lavish Holmby Hills neighborhood. Sources confirmed to TMZ that Homeland Security was “in the middle” or raiding the musician’s properties.

Combs has been accused of several crimes, including one lodged by an anonymous woman who claims that he and two friends sexually assaulted her when she was 17. Combs has filed a motion to have the case thrown out.

Three other women have accused Combs of sexual assault after his ex, a singer known by Cassie, sued him last November. The most recent accuser claims that after being supplied with “copious amounts of drugs and alcohol,” Diddy and two pals took turns violently raping the teen as she drifted in and out of consciousness, leaving her in so much pain that she could barely stand – nor remember how she got home, the Daily Mail reports, citing her complaint.

In harrowing detail, she described in her suit how Combs allegedly demanded that she pinch his nipples throughout the attack to help him ‘get off,’ before pulling up a chair to watch her being raped and choked by his associates.

She says she suffered in silence for 20 years until the R&B singer Cassie sued Combs, her former mentor and ex-boyfriend, for allegedly subjecting her to savage beatings, drug-addled hotel orgies and rape. -Daily Mail

Cassie, meanwhile, said that “Combs physically abused her and forced her to have sex with male prostitutes while he masturbated and recorded the encounters,” according to NBC News. Her case was settled the day after it was filed.

In February, Combs was accused of sexual misconduct by a male music producer, Rodley “Lil Rod” Jones, who sued him over allegations that “Combs grabbed his genitals without consent, and that he also tried to “groom” Mr. Jones into having sex with another man, telling him it was “a normal practice in the music industry,” the NY Times reported last month.

According to Mr. Jones’s complaint, at a listening party in July 2023 at Mr. Combs’s home in California, he was forced to drink shots of tequila laced with drugs, though the legal papers do not specify who offered him the shots or how he was forced. In the suit, Mr. Jones says that after he had the drink, he passed out and awoke “at 4 a.m. the following morning naked with a sex worker sleeping next to him.”

According to the suit, Mr. Combs also forced Mr. Jones to “solicit sex workers and perform sex acts to the pleasure of Mr. Combs.” To induce him, Mr. Jones says, Mr. Combs offered him money and also threatened him with violence.

Combs has denied the claims.

Federal agents raid multiple properties of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs

While the musician faces several lawsuits alleging sexual assault, it was not clear if he was the target of the investigation

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed on Monday that agents have raided properties in Los Angeles, Miami and New York that local news outlets have reported are tied to rapper and mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.

NBC News and local stations in Los Angeles and Miami first reported the activity at Combs’s properties on Monday. Federal Homeland Security Investigations agents and other law enforcement were conducting searches of the properties as part of a sex trafficking investigation by federal authorities in New York, two law enforcement officials told the Associated Press.

It’s not clear whether Combs was the target of the investigation. The officials were not authorized to publicly discuss details of the investigation and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

The exact reason for the raids remained unclear. “Earlier today, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) New York executed law enforcement actions as part of an ongoing investigation, with assistance from HSI Los Angeles, HSI Miami, and our local law enforcement partners,” Homeland Security Investigations said in response to the Guardian’s questions about the reported raids. The department did not specify the target of the investigation.

The musician is facing multiple civil lawsuits over alleged sexual assault and sex trafficking. Last year, he settled a lawsuit from his former girlfriend, R&B singer Cassie, who accused him of physically and sexually abusing her for years. Another of Combs’ accusers alleges that Combs, along with two other men, raped her two decades ago, when she was 17. Producer Rodney Jones has also accused Combs of sexually assaulting him and forcing him to hire sex workers and perform sexual acts with them.

Combs has denied the allegations. In response to allegations that he raped a 17-year-old, Combs’s attorneys have filed documents calling for the lawsuit to be dismissed and stating that he “never participated in, witnessed, or was or is presently aware of any misconduct, sexual or otherwise, relating to plaintiff in any circumstance whatsoever”.

NBC reported that federal officials in Manhattan have interviewed people and are scheduled to interview sources in relation to allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault and the solicitation and distribution of illegal narcotics and firearms, citing anonymous sources. A spokesperson for the US attorney’s office in Manhattan declined to comment.

Video from KABC, a local television news station, showed armed officers entering a property in the Holmby Hills area of LA, which KABC said was connected to Combs’s company Bad Boy Entertainment.

Actor and rapper Nashawn Breedlove, who faced off against Eminem in a rap battle on the movie “8 Mile,” has died. He was 46 years old.

According to TMZ, who first confirmed the news, he died in his sleep at his home in New Jersey Sunday. The cause of death is currently unknown.

On Tuesday, Breedlove’s mother also confirmed his death on Facebook, writing, “Nashawn’s departure from this world has left an immense void in my life, one that words cannot fully express. I can’t put into words the pain and hurt that I feel. He was not just my son; he was a remarkable man whose character and strength inspired all who crossed his path.”

She thanked the public for their support and prayers.

Rapper Mickey Factz also took to Instagram to pay tribute to Breedlove, posting the battle from “8 Mile” and writing, “RIP to one of the few emcee’s to beat Eminem… Lotto from 8 Mile. Who’s friends lovingly called him, OX. You will be missed for your tenacity and aggressiveness.”

Nashawn Breedlove, a performer best known for appearing in a rap battle against Eminem in the 2002 movie “8 Mile,” has died at age 46.

His mother, Patricia Breedlove, confirmed his death in a post on Facebook published Tuesday.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of my beloved son Nashawn Breedlove’s passing. Many of you knew him by his alias’ Lotto, ox’, a name that echoed his resilience and determination,” she wrote.

“Nashawn was a rapper, singer, songwriter, and actor. No one could deny his talent,” continues the post.

Breedlove called her son “a remarkable man” whose “departure from this world has left an immense void in my life, one that words cannot fully express.”

It is not clear how Breedlove died, but his death drew tributes from other figures in the music industry.

“RIP to one of the few emcee’s to beat Eminem… Lotto from 8 Mile. Who’s friends lovingly called him, OX,” wrote rapper Mickey Factz in a post on Instagram, referring to the scene in the movie in which he competes in a rap battle against Eminem’s character.

The Hip Hop community banded together to pay Tupac Shakur his proper respects yesterday, September 13, on what was the 20th anniversary of his untimely death at the age of 25.

A new revelation was also made regarding the last photo taken of Makaveli the Don.

Following the September 7, 1996 ill-fated Mike Tyson vs. Bruce Seldon fight, Pac and Suge Knight cruised on the Vegas strip in the Death Row Records CEO’s ’96 black BMW 750iL when a then, 29-year-old UCLA film school student named Leonard Jefferson had an encounter with the soon-to-be-dead rap icon that would go on to become part of an urban legend bigger than the both of them.

During a new interview with Complex, Jefferson revealed that he actually had a bit of history with Pac, as they both inhabited the same city.

“It was crowded and a lot of celebrities were coming in,” Jefferson recalled of the hustle and bustle of the MGM Grand’s lobby, which was also the scene of a Death Row brawl with an alleged gang member, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, who is also said to have been the one to fire the shots that would eventually kill Shakur.

“Ironically, I saw 2Pac and his crew pass by us. I kind of knew him when I was a student at UCLA film school. We had hung out with some of my coworkers. That was pretty much the extent of my acquaintance with him. I didn’t go over to him then because I figured I would probably see him later.”

Later that even, Jefferson would have the chance to interact with Pac, for what would be his final photo-op.

“I came to a light at Harmon Ave. and I looked over and saw some shiny rims on a BMW. I looked over and it was 2Pac and Suge. I said, “Yo, what up, Pac!” He paused for a second, then he recognized who I was and said, ‘Yeah, what up, man,’ he said.

“I asked what they were doing tonight, and he said they were going to Club 662 and I should come over. I said, “Alright, cool…hey, let me grab a picture really quick.” My camera was in the center console so I just grabbed it, then snapped that picture. Right after that the light changed green and they pulled off. I got a few cars behind them and then they made a right turn.”

Around 11:15pm, the BMW was shot up, hitting Shakur four times and sending him to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. Jefferson vividly remembers that unnerving imagery as well.

“I got on my phone and called California Pizza Kitchen to cancel my order. All of a sudden, heard, “POP! POP! POP! POP!”

All of a sudden I see the black BMW turn around and take off. It made a wide U-turn right in the middle of the street and started following Suge. It was a procession of cars, like two or three; there was a Lexus that the security guard was driving. I had a ‘96 Chevy Suburban. You can see it in the reflection in the picture I took of Pac.

We were speeding, maneuvering through the traffic—I just got caught up in the moment. We got back to the Strip and I saw that Suge went up on the curb. I don’t know how he got up there, I guess he was avoiding someone or a car and then came back down. He had a flat tire; the car started limping. I proceeded through the intersection as well and we got back to Harmon, the street I first saw Pac at, and came to a stop. I pulled into the turning lane behind the Lexus and just sat there. I was just looking to see what was going on. I knew there was a shooting but I didn’t know at that time that 2Pac or Suge had been shot.”

Conspiracy theorists have often cited how Knight was involved in the shooting, for a number of unfounded reasons, but according to Jefferson’s recollection, he was just as traumatized as anyone who had just seen anyone have bullets ripped through their flesh.

They also jacked him up because, well, that’s what police are accused of doing from time to time.

“Suge gets out and starts yelling, “My man Pac is shot, Pac is shot!” One of the officers goes around and aims his gun at the passenger side. Then, all of a sudden, while I’m sitting there, a cop runs up to me, cocks his gun and tells me to put my hands on the steering wheel. Another pulled me out of the car and laid me on the ground. I said, “What’s going on?” But they wouldn’t tell me. One guy had a knee on my back.”

Although Tupac was transported from the site of the crime, the aftermath didn’t get any less hectic. Investigators actually confiscated Jefferson’s camera as evidence, jeopardizing the photo’s very existence from seeing the light of day.

“The chaos was still going on when the ambulance pulled up. I saw them putting 2Pac on the gurney, then they put him in the ambulance and took off. One of the officers came back, stood me up, took the handcuffs off me, and said, “You’re free to go,” he remembered, only for the same officers to take him back to the station hours later, admitting they “fucked up” for releasing him in the first place.

“We fucked up, we need you back at the scene, the detectives are there and we should not have let you leave the scene.”

At first I was asking why, if they had all of my information, but then I asked, “How did you find me?” They knew where I was staying but there were hundreds and hundreds of people there. “How did you find me?”

“We’re police officers,” they told him.

A few days later, Pac succumbed to his injuries and Jefferson was left with the potential of being somewhat of a celebrity, all because he had the last living relic of the man whose life the country was mourning over. He had the picture verified by Tupac’s fiancée Kidada Jones [Quincy Jones’ daughter] and even turned down paid TV interviews, although seizing the opportunity was ideal for his bank account at the time.

To this day, the photo still isn’t synonymous with his name.

“I now work in the movie industry with film directors and producers, and no one really knows I took that picture,” he continued. “I worked on a Nas video where they used the picture I took in the video, and I didn’t tell the director, I just kept it to myself.”

“Just seeing how people talk about it on the internet, how it’s fake — it gets to me. I took the picture. I know it’s real. This picture has taken on its own life because conspiracy theorists think Pac’s not dead, he’s in Cuba somewhere, just from that picture. It’s interesting how you hear about people doing things with the TMZs and how people turn stories around, but now I’m a part of it, and I know it’s real.” source

THE BMW TUPAC SHAKUR WAS SHOT IN 25 YEARS AGO IS UP FOR SALE FOR NEARLY $2M

It has been 25 years since the iconic rapper Tupac Shakur was shot and killed and now the car that he was riding in that fateful night is up for sale.

The 1996 BMW 750iL is the same one Pac was riding in the night he was shot in Las Vegas along with Suge Knight who was driving the vehicle on Sept. 7, 1996. Tupac was struck in the chest, arm, and thigh by four .40 caliber rounds from a Glock. The Dear Mama rapper was rushed to the hospital but he died six days later from the gunshot wounds. He was 25 years old.

But the car is not in the same bullet-riddled state as the night of the murder. According to TMZ, And if you’ve got your eye on scoring this classic, the car will cost you a whopping $1.7 million.

The car is for sale and on display at the Celebrity Cars Las Vegas showroom, which is not too far from where the fatal shooting took place.

The new owner of the car will be provided with documentation proving its history. This includes a certificate showing it was first purchased by Death Row Records, which was founded by Knight.

Tupac’s Murder

The night of the murder, Tupac and Suge stopped at a traffic light following a Mike Tyson fight, when another vehicle pulled up alongside them and opened fire, hitting Tupac multiple times while only grazing Suge.

Tupac’s murder has led to many conspiracy theories, with many pointing the finger at the Southside Crips, a gang from Compton, California.

The rapper was also in an ongoing feud with rapper Notorious B.I.G. To this day, Hit ‘Em Up is considered the greatest “diss track” of all time, with repeated threats made toward Biggie and fellow East Coast rappers.Despite many leads and several investigations, Tupac’s killer has never been found. source

Far from a one-hit wonder, however, Afroman’s discography is deep, spanning from tapes and CDs he self-released in the late ’90s through to highlights like 2008’s Frobama and 2016’s Crazy Rap.

Afroman was born Joseph Foreman in East Palmdale, Los Angeles. Citing influences like Too $hort, Big Daddy Kane, and 2 Live Crew, he began his rap career in the eighth grade, when he started making homemade tapes of his own songs and passing them out to his classmates. He got his start as a performer at church, where he played drums and eventually moved on to playing guitar. For a while, he even worked as an airport baggage handler while trying to make an impression with his songs.

Sell Your DopeIn 1999, while he was still living in Los Angeles, Afroman released his first album, Sell Your Dope, and played parties, sidewalks, and contests. Not finding L.A. to his liking, he moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where he teamed up with drummer Jody Stallone and keyboardist/bassist Daryl Havard. In the spring of 2000, he recorded his breakout LP, Because I Got High, with producer Tim Ramenofsky. He distributed it at shows with the help of T-Bones Records in Hattiesburg. As word spread about his live shows, demand for his music increased. At the time, online file-sharing service Napster had just kicked off the MP3 revolution, which turned out to be a boon for Afroman. A fan managed to acquire a copy of his album in digital form and posted the track “Because I Got High” to Napster. Howard Stern also boosted the popularity of the track by playing it on his radio show. “Because I Got High” went on to become a huge worldwide hit by the end of 2001. It was nominated for a Best Rap Grammy in 2002.

The Good TimesAfroman eventually attracted the attention of Universal Records, which signed him to a six-album deal. His first Universal album, The Good Times, was a compilation of his first two LPs and a few new tracks. “Because I Got High” was also included on the soundtrack to Kevin Smith‘s film Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, starring Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. After parting ways with Universal, Afroman became an independent artist and self-released a string of follow-ups. When he returned, he did so in a big way, releasing a whopping four albums in 2004. He started with the double-disc Afroholic…The Even Better Times, released on April 20th. Free of Universal, he wrote, produced, and recorded Afroholic on his own, marketed it largely online, and toured with a live band. He followed with 4RO:20, the holiday album Jobe Bells, and his fifth studio album, The Hungry Hustlerz: Starvation Is Motivation, which featured rappers like Po Boy, Mr. Mixx, Strainj, and Blaq. Two more albums arrived in 2006: Drunk’n’High and his second holiday album, A Colt .45 Christmas.

Waiting to InhaleIn 2008, Afroman released Waiting to Inhale, the Greatest Hitz Live collection, and Frobama: Head of State. After a prolific four-year stretch, Afroman remained relatively quiet until 2013. That year, he released the aptly titled Marijuana Music, which featured his nephew on multiple tracks. The vaguely G-funk album The Frorider was released the following year, before he unveiled a pair of EPs in 2015: the self-aware One Hit Wonder and his socially conscious statement The N-Word. 2016 saw the release of new album Happy to Be Alive as well as Crazy Rap, a collection of alternate versions of familiar tracks. New material continued flowing in as the years went by, such as 2020 EP Don’t Sell Your Dope and the 2021 addendum to his best-known track, “Cuz I’m High.” source

Afroman isn’t the first rapper to turn a damaging experience with law enforcement into music, but he’s definitely the first to shout out his mom’s lemon pound cake in the process.

After the Adams County Sheriff’s Office conducted a raid on his Ohio property in 2022 with a warrant for drug trafficking and kidnapping, Afroman, real name Joseph Foreman, told VICE he lost out on gigs and felt angry and powerless.

He channeled that energy into a pair of songs, “Lemon Pound Cake” and “Will You Help Me Repair My Door,”

with music videos that feature actual footage of deputies smashing their way onto his property,

rifling through his belongings,

and checking out the baked goods sitting on his counter before they cut power to his personal security cameras altogether.

Clips from Afroman’s music videos have since gone viral on TikTok so we put it on our YouTube!. He was never charged with a crime, and maintains that the sheriff’s department stole $400 of his money that they seized during the raid.

Footage from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office raid of Afroman’s home is now the setting for two new music videos.

The Ohio-dwelling rapper and singer, known for his song “Because I Got High,” recently released two music videos, “Lemon Pound Cake” and “Will You Help Me Repair My Door,” using home security footage captured during the raid.

Armed sheriff’s deputies raided Afroman’s Winchester, Adams County, home last August in search of marijuana and drug paraphernalia on suspicion of drug trafficking and kidnapping, according to a search warrant obtained by Enquirer media partner Fox 19.

Sheriff’s raid:Afroman gets back money seized in sheriff’s office raid of Ohio home, $400 missing

Deputies seized marijuana and over $5,000 in cash during the raid, but no charges were filed. The money was returned to Afroman in November, minus $400. Adams County Sheriff Kimmy Rogers told The Enquirer at the time that the missing cash was being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Afroman addressed the warrant and poked fun at the sheriff’s deputies in both songs.

Besides new music, the “Colt 45” rapper also recently announced his intention to run for president in 2024.

And one of the newest additions joining the Rock Hall museum in Cleveland is someone pretty close to Detroit hearts: Eminem.

Also on the list is Pat Benatar, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, and of course everyone’s favorite country music star Dolly Parton.

The newest inductees will be celebrated Nov. 5 in Los Angeles.

“Eminem’s accolades speak for themselves,” read a description of the Hip-Hop artist on the Rock Hall website. “His world-renowned status solidified hip-hop as the most commercially successful music on the planet.”

Among his discography selected with his induction are his albums The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show, the * Mile soundtrack, Encore, Relapse, Recovery, and Music to Be Murdered By.

Lil Wayne is currently mourning Robert Hoobler aka “Uncle Bob” — the police officer who saved 12-year-old Wayne’s life following a suicide attempt.
Weezy broke the news of the loss Monday on IG, where he posted … “RIP uncle Bob. Aunt Kathie been waiting for u.”
According to Nola.com, Bob’s family said he was found dead in his home Friday. The former New Orleans officer was a double amputee, and his police peers always spoke fondly of Bob.
He was the responding officer when Wayne attempted suicide by shooting himself in the chest. Wayne’s always credited Bob with not only responding, but rescuing him when he got on the scene.

Bob spoke to TMZ in August 2021, and said Wayne had offered to him financial assistance for life, if he ever needed it.
Wayne previously thought Uncle Bob had already passed — he rapped about it in the 2015 track, “London Roads” — but he was alive, got in touch with Weezy … and they resumed their friendship. source

New Orleans officer who saved rapper Lil Wayne’s life dies at 65

Robert Hoobler suffered from lingering health issues after a car crash led doctors to amputate both of his legs

NEW ORLEANS — Robert Hoobler, the New Orleans police officer who helped save Lil Wayne’s life when the future rapper shot himself at age 12, has died at age 65, his friends said Saturday.

Hoobler, 65, was found dead Friday in his Old Jefferson home, they said. For several years, he suffered from lingering health issues after a car wreck led doctors to amputate both legs, according to posts on his social media.

David Lapene, a friend and former coworker at the Police Department, said Lil Wayne’s account of Hoobler and officer Kevin Balancier saving his life 27 years ago is “one of the best stories that depicts Hoobler as a person.”

The rapper, born Dwayne Carter Jr., was handling a 9 mm pistol in his mother’s Hollygrove apartment on Nov. 11, 1994, when he shot himself in the chest. Whether it was an accident depends on when the rapper tells the story.

Hoobler heard the police radio report and, although off duty, drove to the scene, as did five other officers. No ambulance was available, so the ranking officer ordered Hobbler to rush the boy to a hospital.

Balancier backed a police car into the apartment driveway and opened the cruiser’s door. Hoobler carried Dwayne to the back seat and lay the badly wounded youth across his lap.

SPEEDING TO HOSPITAL

One officer blocked traffic at major intersections, and as Dwayne groaned and bled all over Hoobler, Balancier sped to Ochsner Medical Center, the closest emergency room.

Hoobler spoke to Dwayne during the trip and shook him to keep him alert: “Stay awake, son. You’re going to be fine. You’ll see.”

When they arrived, Balancier opened the door and let Hoobler out. Hoobler put Dwayne on a gurney, and nurses and doctors wheeled him away.

‘ALWAYS PEOPLE FORWARD’

Hoobler went to the restroom at the hospital to wash off what he could. Most of his shirt was tinted dark red.

Lil Wayne has recounted the story in interviews. In one, the Black rapper said he never knew racism because of Hoobler, a White man whom he called “Uncle Bob.”

“He was always people forward,” Lapene said. “He took care of the public just as much as he took care of the cops.”

Lil Wayne is mourning the death of former New Orleans police officer Robert Hoobler, whom he endearingly referred to as “Uncle Bob” after he saved the rapper’s life following his suicide attempt at age 12.

“Everything happens for a reason. I was dying when I met u at this very spot. U refused to let me die,” Wayne wrote via Instagram on Monday (July 25) beneath a photo of Hoobler. “Everything that doesn’t happen, doesn’t happen for a reason. That reason being you and faith. RIP uncle Bob. Aunt Kathie been waiting for u. I’ll love & miss u both and live for us all.”

According to The New Orleans Advocate, Hoobler was found dead in his Old Jefferson, La., home. He was 65. His grandson Daniel Nelson said that he suffered from lingering health issues stemming from a car accident and struggled with diabetes, which eventually led to both of his legs being amputated. David Lapene, Hoobler’s former colleague, said Lil Wayne’s story of Hoobler saving his life nearly 30 years ago is “one of the best stories that depicts Hoobler as a person.”

Last August, the rapper, now 39, sat down with Emmanuel Acho, former NFL player and author of Uncomfortable Conversations With a Black Man, to discuss his mental health struggles and open up about his suicide attempt at such a young age. On Nov. 11, 1994, the Young Money MC (real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr.) had called the police before finding his mother’s gun in her bedroom and putting it to his head. After he had shot himself in the chest and heard the cops pounding on the front door, Wayne described how the blood pouring out of chest made it easy for him to slide his body across the floor before kicking the door to signal to the officers that someone was inside.

“They saw me — they as in the cops — they just jumped clean over me and went through the house, talking about, ‘I found the drugs! I found the gun!’ It took a guy named Uncle Bob, he ran up there and when he got to the top of the steps and saw me there, he refused to even step over me,” said Weezy of Hoobler, who was off-duty at the time and arrived at Wayne’s apartment after he heard the dispatcher on his police radio say there was a boy suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. “One of them yelled, ‘I got the drugs!’ And that’s when he went crazy. He was like, ‘I don’t give a f— about no drugs! Do you not see the baby on the ground?!’ … He’s screaming at ’em, and they all came out the other room like, ‘Oh sorry, boss. We called the ambulance.’ He’s like, ‘I don’t give a f—!’ So he called one of their names [and said] ‘Your car, now!’ Picked me up and just kept telling me some sh– like, ‘You’re not gonna die on me, you’re not gonna die on me.’ … And so he got me to the hospital, he brought me there and made sure I was good.”

Wayne continued: “I met him years later. But he was like, ‘I don’t want nothing. I just want to say I’m happy to see that I saved a life that mattered.’”

Superstar rapper Lil Wayne wishes people didn’t know about his charity work.

The hip hop heavyweight launched nonprofit One Family Foundation in 1997 in Seattle, Washington, and has worked alongside students in a youth mentoring program since.

Lil Wayne would prefer his charitable efforts to go unnoticed, but knows this isn’t the case with his manager around.

He told MTV News: “To be totally honest with you, that’s Cortez. If it was left up to me, then y’all still wouldn’t know what I’m doin’.”

Aside from helping other children, Lil Wayne enjoys nothing more than being a father to his four offspring – Reginea, Dwayne III, Cameron Cater and Neal.

He gushed: “There’s nothing better than that, period — being a father. I’ve done so many things… I don’t get no joy like the joy I get being a father. Simple things like helping my daughter with her homework. Simple things like putting my sons to sleep.”

Supports KRS-One’s “Stop The Violence Movement”

In 2007, KRS-One re-launched a campaign called “Stop The Violence Movement”, which first launched in 1989. The campaign was started to try and lower violence by getting hip-hop artists to speak up and raise awareness to listeners.

Other rappers other than KRS-One who support “Stop The Violence Movement” include Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Ludacris, Rick Ross, Chingy, Cassidy, and Immortal Technique. You can watch footage of Weezy recording his public service announcement messages for the campaign in the clips above and below!

Helps Rebuild A Park In New Orleans

After the Hurricane Katrina disaster in 2005, Lil Wayne helped rebuild a park that was damaged in New Orleans, Louisiana by donating $200,000. The reasons behind this donation are that Weezy used to play at the park when he was a kid growing up and he hoped it would inspire other music artists to help out with donations.

In 2012, Wayne went back to this park and shot a music video for his collaboration with T.I. on a song called “Ball“.

Involved In The “We Are The World” Remake

Lil Wayne recorded vocals for the “We Are The World 25 For Haiti” charity single, which was released to benefit the people of Haiti after the earthquake that struck in 2010 leaving over 300,000 people dead and over 1 million homeless.

The charity single, which was produced by Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie, was a remake of the 1985 “We Are The World” song and was released on February 12th, 2010. A music video for the single that you can watch above was also released to promote the track.

Other music artists on “We Are The World 25 For Haiti” include Kanye West, Miley Cyrus, Barbra Streisand, Pink, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Enrique Iglesias, and about 40 more. For the single, Weezy recorded Bob Dylan’s original vocals from “We Are The World” and after performing the part, he joked about it in an interview:

“I don’t know how to sing… I was like: ‘What am I doing here? You guys are real good comedians.’ After I did Bob Dylan’s part, it kind of hit me that I guess this is way more important than I could ever imagine.”

Buys Wheelchair For A Fan’s Disabled Mother

At the end of 2010, Lil Wayne gifted the mother of Ronda Austin, who is called Evelyn Austin, with a Quantum 6000 wheelchair. Weezy got to know Ronda through numerous letters that she had sent him while he was locked up behind bars in Rikers Island.

In these letters, Ronda wrote to Wayne explaining how much of a fan she was, as well as writing about her family. Tune then rang her up on the phone and mentioned that he will take care of a problem she and her father were having with purchasing a wheelchair for Evelyn.

Gives Out Turkeys Every Year For Thanksgiving

Every year for Thanksgiving Day, Lil Wayne and his Cash Money Records family hold a turkey giveaway in their hometown New Orleans, Louisiana. Weezy and the CMB crew give out around 1,000 turkeys to families from their city, so that they can enjoy the holiday.

Opens Up TRUKSTOP Skate Park In New Orleans

On September 26th, 2012, Lil Wayne opened up his TRUKSTOP skate park in the Lower 9th Ward Village of New Orleans, Louisiana that he built along with Mountain Dew. Weezy decided to build this skate park where he did, because it was one of the worst places hit by Hurricane Katrina back in 2005.

“Tie My Hands” Saved A Soldier’s Life

A soldier named Lander Chappell was clearing a road of improvised explosive devices in Afghanistan when he accidentally stood on one that went off. He had lost his leg and he was losing a lot of blood, as well as drifting in and out of consciousness.

One of Lander‘s solider friends kept talking to him while they waited for doctors to arrive and asked him to sing his favorite song. Chappell then sang Lil Wayne‘s “Tie My Hands” song featuring Robin Thicke until help came.

To this day, Lander Chappell believes that both the “Tie My Hands” track and his solder friend saved his life: “Would like to thank Lil Wayne for making Tie My Hands. It kept me alive when I stepped on an IED in Afghanistan. That song is inspiration.”

Lander‘s leg has now been fitted with a prosthesis. You can read more about this interesting story here!

Held Benefit Show In Arizona

Lil Wayne performed live at a benefit concert on September 3rd, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona to support the Carter Fund. All of the proceeds from the show went towards the Carter Fund charity, which is an organization that holds after-school programs for the youth in the United States of America.

“Indiegogo” is currently trying to reach a goal of $200,000 to help spread their after-school programs across the United States of America. Weezy has contributed $30,000 to the campaign.
