Smash Mouth singer Steve Harwell has died at age 56, Fox News Digital can confirm.

The musician passed away peacefully at his home in Boise, Idaho, on the morning of Sept. 4. Harwell had been suffering from liver failure and in hospice care before his death.

“Steve Harwell was a true American Original,” a statement shared by a rep for the singer read. “A larger than life character who shot up into the sky like a Roman candle. Steve should be remembered for his unwavering focus and impassioned determination to reach the heights of pop stardom. And the fact that he achieved this near-impossible goal with very limited musical experience makes his accomplishments all the more remarkable.”

“His only tools were his irrepressible charm and charisma, his fearlessly reckless ambition, and his king-size cajones. Steve lived a 100% full-throttle life. Burning brightly across the universe before burning out. Good night Heevo Veev. Rest in peace knowing you aimed for the stars, and magically hit your target.”

A representative for Harwell confirmed Sunday that the former lead singer of the band known for the hit “All Star” was on his deathbed battling liver failure.

“Steve is resting at home and being cared for by his fiancé and hospice care,” the band’s manager told Fox News Digital. “He is surrounded by Family and Friends.”

The rep also noted that he hoped “people would respect Steve and his family’s privacy during this difficult time.”

British rock band member Bernie Marsden’s cause of death has not been revealed

Bernie Marsden, original guitarist of the British rock band Whitesnake, has died. He was 72.

Marsden died on Thursday with his wife and daughters by his side, his family confirmed in a statement.

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep sadness we announce the death of Bernie Marsden,” a statement read on his Instagram page.

“Bernie died peacefully on Thursday evening with his wife, Fran, and daughters, Charlotte and Olivia, by his side. Bernie never lost his passion for music, writing and recording new songs until the end.”

A cause of death has not been revealed.

The English hard rock band formed in London in 1978. Marsden was a former guitarist for Whitesnake and played with the original band members frontman David Coverdale, drummer Dave Dowie, bassist Neil Murray and guitarist Mick Moody.

Marsden was born in Buckingham in 1951 and got his start in rock ‘n’ roll with the band UFO in 1972 before performing with Whitesnake from 1978 until 1982. The musician was part of several bands during his career, including Alaska and Moody Marsden Band.

During his time with Whitesnake, Marsden was listed as a co-writer on the band’s popular track “Here I Go Again.”

The band’s biggest single topped the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart in October 1987 and spent 28 total weeks on the tally. Marsden also co-wrote “Fool for Your Loving,” which hit No. 37 on the Hot 100 in 1989, according to Billboard.

While Marsden was part of Whitesnake, he was involved with the rock band’s first five albums — “Trouble,” “Lovehunter,” “Ready an’ Willing,” “Come an’ Get It” and “Saints & Sinners.”

Cynthia Weil, the Grammy-winning artist who co-wrote “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” and “On Broadway” has died at 82.

A representative for Weil confirmed the legendary songwriter’s death to Fox News Digital in a statement.

“It is with deep sadness that we learned of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Cynthia Weil, an indelible and unforgettable voice of American popular music. Her important contributions to American songwriting over the past five decades will remain with us for always, as will the memory of this truly great artist. May her memory be a blessing.”

Weil collaborated with popular musicians including Dolly Parton on “Here You Come Again,” and Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville’s duet “Don’t Know Much.”

Before her death, Weil shared a decades-long partnership with her husband Barry Mann. The two tied the knot in 1961.

The powerful music duo’s song “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling” became a major hit for the Righteous Brothers.

The famous song topped the charts in 1965, and got a resurgence in popularity when it was featured in Tom Cruise’s “Top Gun” movie in 1986.

According to Broadcast Music Inc., no other song was played more on radio and television in the 20th century.

As one of the most successful teams in the music industry, Weil and Mann were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010 by Carole King. Mann and Weil were also supporting characters in the hit Broadway musical “Beautiful” about King, which opened in 2013 and documented the intense friendship and rivalry between the two married couples.

Mann and Weil’s musical “They Wrote That?” had a brief run in 2004.

While many of Weil’s peers struggled once The Beatles caught on, she continued to make hits, sometimes with Mann, or with such partners as Michael Masser, David Foster and John Williams, with whom she wrote “For Always” for the soundtrack to Steven Spielberg’s “A.I. Artificial Intelligence.”

Mann helped write the Peabo Bryson ballad “If Ever You’re In My Arms Again,” James Ingram’s “Just Once,” the Pointer Sisters’ “He’s So Shy,” and Lionel Richie’s “Running With the Night.” In 1997, she was in the top 10 again with Hanson’s “I Will Come to You.”

The “I’m Glad I Did” author and talented artist was not limited to love ballads. She and Mann wrote one of rock’s first anti-drug songs, “Kicks,” a hit for Paul Revere and the Raiders in 1966.

Growing up, Weil studied piano and ballet. She majored in theater at Sarah Lawrence University but was encouraged by an agent to try songwriting. By age 20, she was working for the publishing company of “Guys and Dolls” composer Frank Loesser, and shortly after met her future husband, Mann.

Tina Turner has died at 83.

The Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s death was announced on Instagram Wednesday. Turner died Tuesday, after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, according to her manager. She became a Swiss citizen a decade ago.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” the statement on social media said. “With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music. All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”

With admirers ranging from Beyoncé to Mick Jagger, Turner was one of the world’s most successful entertainers, known for a core of pop, rock and rhythm and blues favorites: “Proud Mary,” “Nutbush City Limits,” “River Deep, Mountain High,” and the hits she had in the ’80s, among them “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “We Don’t Need Another Hero” and a cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.”

Throughout her career, Turner sold more than 150 million records. She earned 11 Grammys and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. She was inducted again and honored for her solo career in 2005.

Turner launched her career in 1960 with the release of “A Fool in Love.” The song hit No. 2 on the Hot R&B Sides chart and No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Besides singing, Turner also has dabbled in acting. She landed her first role in 1975 with “Tommy” and would later appear in “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” alongside Mel Gibson.

Turner’s music career began alongside Ike Turner – her first husband. The musician was only 17 years old when she met him. She eventually left Ike in 1976. She first spoke about the abuse she suffered behind closed doors in an article published by People magazine in 1981. Turner described the abuse as “torture” and claimed she was “living a life of death.”

A few years later she released a book.

Turner tied the knot with German music producer Erwin Bach in a lavish ceremony at their home on Lake Zurich in Switzerland on July 4, 2013, after dating for 27 years. Oprah Winfrey and Bryan Adams were on hand to witness the “Proud Mary” singer walk down the aisle wearing a green taffeta and black silk tulle Giorgio Armani dress, which was adorned with Swarovski crystals.

Turner told Winfrey it was “love at first sight” when she met Bach, who was assigned to pick her up from the airport before a concert some 35-plus years ago.

She explained in her documentary: “He had the prettiest face. You could not miss it. It was like saying, ‘Where did he come from?’ He was really that good-looking. My heart went ‘bu-bum.’ It means that a soul has met. My hands were shaking.”

NEW YORK — Tina Turner, the unstoppable singer and stage performer who teamed with husband Ike Turner for a dynamic run of hit records and live shows in the 1960s and ’70s and survived her horrifying marriage to triumph in middle age with the chart-topping “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” has died at 83.

Turner died Tuesday, after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland, according to her manager. She became a Swiss citizen a decade ago.

Few stars traveled so far — she was born Anna Mae Bullock in a segregated Tennessee hospital and spent her latter years on a 260,000 square foot estate on Lake Zurich — and overcame so much. Physically battered, emotionally devastated and financially ruined by her 20-year relationship with Ike Turner, she became a superstar on her own in her 40s, at a time when most of her peers were on their way down, and remained a top concert draw for years after.

With admirers ranging from Beyoncé to Mick Jagger, Turner was one of the world’s most successful entertainers, known for a core of pop, rock and rhythm and blues favorites: “Proud Mary,” “Nutbush City Limits,” “River Deep, Mountain High,” and the hits she had in the ’80s, among them “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” “We Don’t Need Another Hero” and a cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together.”

Her trademarks were her growling contralto, her bold smile and strong cheekbones, her palette of wigs and the muscular, quick-stepping legs she did not shy from showing off. She sold more than 150 million records worldwide, won 12 Grammys, was voted along with Ike into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 (and on her own in 2021) and was honored at the Kennedy Center in 2005, with Beyoncé and Oprah Winfrey among those praising her. Her life became the basis for a film, a Broadway musical and an HBO documentary in 2021 that she called her public farewell.

Until she left her husband and revealed their back story, she was known as the voracious on-stage foil of the steady-going Ike, the leading lady of the “Ike and Tina Turner Revue.” Ike was billed first and ran the show, choosing the material, the arrangements, the backing singers. They toured constantly for years, in part because Ike was often short on money and unwilling to miss a concert. Tina Turner was forced to go on with bronchitis, with pneumonia, with a collapsed right lung.

Other times, the cause of her misfortunes was Ike himself.

As she recounted in her memoir, “I, Tina,” Ike began hitting her not long after they met, in the mid-1950s, and only grew more vicious. Provoked by anything and anyone, he would throw hot coffee in her face, choke her, or beat her until her eyes were swollen shut, then rape her. Before one show, he broke her jaw and she went on stage with her mouth full of blood.

Terrified both of being with Ike and of being without him, she credited her emerging Buddhist faith in the mid-1970s with giving her a sense of strength and self-worth and she finally left in early July, 1976. The Ike and Tina Turner Revue was scheduled to open a tour marking the country’s bicentennial when Tina snuck out of their Dallas hotel room, with just a Mobil credit card and 36 cents, while Ike slept. She hurried across a nearby highway, narrowly avoiding a speeding truck, and found another hotel to stay.

“I looked at him (Ike) and thought, ‘You just beat me for the last time, you sucker,'” she recalled in her memoir.

Turner was among the first celebrities to speak candidly about domestic abuse, becoming a heroine to battered women and a symbol of resilience to all. Ike Turner did not deny mistreating her, although he tried to blame Tina for their troubles. When he died, in 2007, a representative for his ex-wife said simply: “Tina is aware that Ike passed away.”

Little of this was apparent to the many Ike and Tina fans. The Turners were a hot act for much of the 1960s and into the ’70s, evolving from bluesy ballads such as “A Fool in Love” and “It’s Going to Work Out Fine” to flashy covers of “Proud Mary” and “Come Together” and other rock songs that brought them crossover success.

They opened for the Rolling Stones in 1966 and 1969, and were seen performing a lustful version of Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long” in the 1970 Stones documentary “Gimme Shelter.” Laurence Fishburne and Angela Bassett gave Oscar-nominated performances as Ike and Tina in the 1993 movie “What’s Love Got to Do with It,” based on “I, Tina,” but she would say that reliving her years with Ike was so painful she couldn’t bring herself to watch the movie).

Ike and Tina’s reworking of “Proud Mary,” originally a tight, mid-tempo hit for Creedence Clearwater Revival, helped define their assertive, sexual image. Against a background of funky guitar and Ike’s crooning baritone, Tina began with a few spoken words about how some people wanted to hear songs that were “nice and easy.”

“But there’s this one thing,” she warned, “you see, we never ever do nothing nice and easy.

“We always do it nice — and rough.”

But by the end of the 1970s, Turner’s career seemed finished. She was 40 years old, her first solo album had flopped and her live shows were mostly confined to the cabaret circuit. Desperate for work, and money, she even agreed to tour in South Africa when the country was widely boycotted because of its racist apartheid regime.

Rock stars helped bring her back. Rod Stewart convinced her to sing “Hot Legs” with him on “Saturday Night Live” and Jagger, who had openly borrowed some of Turner’s on-stage moves, sang “Honky Tonk Women” with her during the Stones’ 1981-82 tour. At a listening party for his 1983 album “Let’s Dance,” David Bowie told guests that Turner was his favorite female singer.

More popular in England at the time than in the U.S., she recorded a raspy version of “Let’s Stay Together” at EMI’s Abbey Road studios in London. By the end of 1983, “Let’s Stay Together” was a hit throughout Europe and on the verge of breaking in the states. An A&R man at Capitol Records, John Carter, urged the label to sign her up and make an album. Among the material presented to her was a reflective pop-reggae ballad co-written by Terry Britten and Graham Lyle and initially dismissed by Tina as “wimpy.”

“I just thought it was some old pop song, and I didn’t like it,” she later said of “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”

Turner’s “Private Dancer” album came out in May 1984, sold more than eight million copies and featured several hit singles, including the title song and “Better Be Good To Me.” It won four Grammys, among them record of the year for “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” the song that came to define the clear-eyed image of her post-Ike years.

Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington was last surviving founding member of rock band

Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington died Sunday. He was 71.

The band’s representative confirmed Rossington’s death with Fox News Digital.

“It is with our deepest sympathy and sadness that we have to advise, that we lost our brother, friend, family member, songwriter and guitarist, Gary Rossington, today,” the band said online.

“Gary is now with his Skynyrd brothers and family in heaven and playing it pretty, like he always does.”

“Please keep Dale, Mary, Annie and the entire Rossington family in your prayers and respect the family’s privacy at this difficult time,” the post said.

His cause of death has not yet been revealed. The “Free Bird” musician had an emergency heart procedure in 2019.

Rossington had a history of heart issues and previously had surgery following a heart attack in 2015.

In October 1977, Gary was one of more than a dozen passengers who survived a plane crash in Mississippi that killed lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, siblings Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines, and three others.

The crash also claimed the lives of assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray. Lynyrd Skynyrd was traveling on a small Convair CV-240 passenger plane.

Rossington broke both of his legs, his arms, ankles and pelvis when the airplane ran out of fuel and crashed into a field.

A decade after the incident, Gary rejoined the band when Ronnie’s brother, Johnny Van Zant, reformed the group.

Charlie Daniels’ estate shared his condolences to Gary’s family and the famous Southern rock group.

“‘It’s all right now, keep on singin’ loud. It’s all right now, heaven should be proud’- Charlie Daniels 1979 The last of the Free Birds has flown home. RIP Gary Rossington, God Bless the Lynyrd @Skynyrd band. Prayers to Dale and the rest of his family,” they tweeted.

“Free Bird” was featured on the band’s debut album in 1973 and remains not only a rock epic, but also a pop culture staple.

Travis Tritt wrote, “I just learned that my dear friend, Gary Rossington passed away today. I’m heartbroken! Gary was not only a friend, but a collaborator that wrote songs with me and played guitar with me in studio recordings and onstage so many times. My heart goes out to Dale and the girls. RIP.”

David Crosby, a founding member of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, has died. The singer/songwriter and guitarist was 81.

Crosby’s representative confirmed the musician’s passing to Fox News Digital. The rep also shared a statement from Crosby’s bandmate, Stephen Stills.

“I read a quote in this morning’s paper attributed to compose Gustav Mahler that stopped me for a moment: ‘Death has, on placid cat’s paws, entered the room.’ I shoulda known something was up,” Stills said.

 

Melissa Etheridge, who had a baby with Crosby via sperm donation, took to social media Thursday to honor her fellow musician.

Crosby’s wife, Jan Dance, shared a statement with Variety on Thursday, confirming his death:

“It is with great sadness after a long illness, that our beloved David (Croz) Crosby has passed away. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and soulmate Jan and son Django.

Crosby’s bandmate, Graham Nash, also spoke out following Crosby’s death.

“It is with profound sadness that I learned that my friend David Crosby has passed,” Nash told Fox News Digital in a statement. “I know people tend to focus on how volatile our relationship has been at times, but what has always mattered to David and me more than anything was the pure joy of the music we created together, the sound we discovered with one another and the deep friendship we shared over all these many long years.

“David was fearless in life and in music. He leaves behind a tremendous void as far as sheer personality and talent in this world. He spoke his mind, his heart and his passion through his beautiful music and leaves an incredible legacy. These are the things that matter most. My heart is truly with his wife, Jan, his son, Django, and all of the people he has touched in this world.”

Crosby was first inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 as a member of The Byrds. He was inducted a second time in 1997 as a member of Crosby, Stills & Nash.

In the late ’60s, Crosby co-founded the rock super group Crosby, Stills & Nash. The group initially consisted of Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash.

The band later added Neil Young, and they became known as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

While he only wrote a handful of widely known songs, the witty and ever opinionated Crosby was on the front lines of the cultural revolution of the ’60s and ’70s, whether triumphing with Stills, Nash and Young on stage at Woodstock, testifying on behalf of a hirsute generation in his anthem “Almost Cut My Hair” or mourning the assassination of Robert Kennedy in “Long Time Gone.”

Crosby underwent a liver transplant in 1994 after decades of drug use and survived diabetes, hepatitis C and heart surgery in his 70s. In 1987, Crosby married Jan Dance.

Crosby is survived by his five children. A son, whom he shared via sperm donation with Etheridge, Beckett Cypher, died after an opioid addiction in 2020 at the age of 21.

Crosby recorded his solo debut, If I Could Only Remember My Name, in 1971, backed by Nash, members of the Grateful Dead and Jefferson Airplane, and Joni Mitchell (who he was romantically involved with for a time, and who famously compared Crosby’s walrus-mustache look to Yosemite Sam). Though critically savaged at the time, the languid, meditative album later gained a cult following, with its influence heard in the contemporary neo-folk of Fleet Foxes and Grizzly Bear. In 1977, Crosby, Stills, and Nash regrouped for the quadruple-platinum CSN. In 1979, they performed at the anti-nuclear benefit concerts sponsored by Musicians United for Safe Energy.

Daylight Again was another success, in 1982, producing the hits “Wasted on the Way” and “Southern Cross.” During these years, Crosby was a frequent voice on records by Grace Slick and Paul Kantner of Jefferson Starship, Hot Tuna, and Phil Collins (including the hit “Another Day in Paradise”).

By the early Eighties, though, his drug abuse was having a ruinous impact. In 1985, he was sentenced to prison for nine months after leaving the drug rehabilitation program he was allowed to enter instead of serving a five-year prison sentence for possessing cocaine and carrying a gun. He appeared with Stills, Nash, and Young at Live Aid while out on appeal bond. Crosby emerged from prison in 1986 newly clean, and married his longtime girlfriend, Jan Dance, in 1987.

English rock star Jeff Beck died after bout with meningitis

Guitar legend Jeff Beck died on Tuesday after contracting bacterial meningitis. He was 78.

“On behalf of his family, it is with deep and profound sadness that we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing,” Beck’s representative confirmed in a statement shared with Fox News Digital.

“After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he peacefully passed away yesterday. His family ask for privacy while they process this tremendous loss.”

Known as one of the most influential guitarists in modern music, Beck, born Geoffrey Arnold Beck, earned eight Grammy awards throughout his decades-long career.

Ozzy Osbourne tweeted, “I can’t express how saddened I am to hear of @JeffBeckMusic’s passing. What a terrible loss for his family, friends & his many fans. It was such an honor to have known Jeff & an incredible honor to have had him play on my most recent album, #PatientNumber9. Long live #JeffBeck.”

Dave Davies of The Kinks was “heartbroken” over the sudden loss” and recalled seeing Beck recently perform in a series of tweets.

“I’m heartbroken he looked in fine shape to me,” Davies wrote. “Playing great he was in great shape. I’m shocked and bewilderedDeepest sympathy to his wife friends close ones I’m bewildered Jeff Beck it don’t make sense I don’t get it. He was a good friend and a great guitar player.”

Beck spent the summer touring with Johnny Depp in Europe after releasing his final album, “18.”

He appeared as a guest artist on dozens of albums, and worked with Stevie Wonder, Sir Rod Stewart, Tina Turner, Mick Jagger and Jon Bon Jovi, to name a few.

Beck told Guitar World in 2014, “I like an element of chaos in music. That feeling is the best thing ever, as long as you don’t have too much of it. It’s got to be in balance. I just saw Cirque du Soleil, and it struck me as complete organized chaos. If I could turn that into music, it’s not far away from what my ultimate goal would be, which is to delight people with chaos and beauty at the same time.”

Stewart shared fond memories of Beck in a tribute on social media, and said the musician was “on another planet.”

He wrote, “He took me and Ronnie Wood to the USA in the late 60s in his band the Jeff Beck Group and we haven’t looked back since. He was one of the few guitarists that when playing live would actually listen to me sing and respond. Jeff, you were the greatest, my man . Thank you for everything. RIP.”

Paul Stanley wrote, “WOW. What awful news. Jeff Beck, one of the all time guitar masters has died. From The Yardbirds and The Jeff Beck Group on, he blazed a trail impossible to follow. Play on now and forever. @jeffbeckmusic.”

Gene Simmons shared a photo of Beck with the tribute, “Heartbreaking news to report the late, great Jeff Back has sadly passed. No one played guitar like Jeff. Please get ahold of the first two Jeff Beck Group albums and behold greatness. RIP.”

In addition to collaborating with Ozzy Osbourne, Jimi Hendrix and ZZ Top, Beck released 17 of his own studio albums and more than 20 singles.

His final catalog with Depp was in the works for three years, and included covers of Motown musicians, in addition to songs from the Beach Boys, John Lennon and Velvet Underground.

“When Johnny and I started playing together, it really ignited our youthful spirit and creativity,” Beck told The Sunday Times last year. “We would joke about how we felt 18 again, so that just became the album title too.”

Depp began touring with Beck in the midst of his defamation trial against Amber Heard. Beck and Depp began playing together in 2016 when Jeff dropped in on Johnny’s band, the “Hollywood Vampires.” They began recording together in 2019.

“It’s an extraordinary honor to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother,” Depp said in a statement at the time.
