Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor perhaps best known for starring in the TV sitcom “The Cosby Show” as son Theodore “Theo” Huxtable, has died at 54.

Warner drowned off the coast of Costa Rica on Sunday, Costa Rican National Police told ABC News. Warner’s official cause of death was asphyxia, police said.

Warner died near Cocles, a beach in Limon, Costa Rica, after getting caught by a rip current Sunday afternoon, police said. Bystanders rescued him and took him to shore, where he received treatment, though he was declared dead by the Costa Rican Red Cross, police said.

Warner was formally identified by Costa Rica’s national police, which described him as a tourist.

Warner played Theo Huxtable for all eight seasons of “The Cosby Show,” which ran from 1985-1992, receiving an Emmy nomination for the role.

Warner also starred with Eddie Griffin in the 1996-2000 sitcom “Malcolm & Eddie,” and as Dr. Alex Reed in the BET sitcom “Reed Between the Lines.” He also appeared in guest roles on dozens of television shows over the years.

Warner most recently starred in the Fox medical drama “The Resident” for five of the show’s six seasons.

Born Aug. 18, 1970, Warner caught the acting bug early in life and attended and graduated from The Professional Children’s School in New York City.

He made his first television appearance in an episode of the TV series “Matt Houston” in 1982 and also appeared in the “Fame” television series the following year.

In 1984, he landed his role in “The Cosby Show” alongside Bill Cosby, Phylicia Rashad, Lisa Bonet and more.

In 2023, Warner appeared on “Live with Kelly and Mark” and shared how he got the role.

“When my agent submitted me, they were looking for a 6-foot-2-inch 16-year-old,” he said at the time. “Because it was a running joke — Mr. Cosby’s son at the time was 15 and was [6 feet, 2 inches tall].”

He said that they weren’t able to find someone with that criteria, so his agent resubmitted him for the role and he auditioned.

“I was literally the last person they saw,” he said.

The role earned Warner an Emmy nomination in 1986 for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.

He added, “That impact is irreversible.”

Following “The Cosby Show,” Warner continued to appear in several television series including “The Michael J. Fox Show,” “Key & Peele,” “American Horror Story” and “Sons of Anarchy” in 2014, as well as “Suits” and “American Crime Story” in 2016.

In 2011, he starred in the BET comedy series “Reed Between the Lines,” alongside Tracee Ellis Ross.

He also starred in several films, including “The List” in 2007, “Fool’s Gold” in 2008 and “Shot” in 2017.

In 2015, Warner earned a Grammy Award for best traditional R&B performance alongside Robert Glasper Experiment and Lalah Hathaway for their cover of Stevie Wonder’s “Jesus Children of America.”

He told Questlove in 2023 that he was 26 when he started playing the bass as a hobby while working on “Malcolm and Eddie.”

He also spoke about playing the bass in a 2015 interview with ForBassPlayersOnly.com, saying, “I always say the bass chose me because as a kid, the bass was always thing thing that resonated with me.”

“I got my first record player when I was 8 and the first record I stole from my mom’s collection was Grand Central Station,” he added. “So at 8 years old, that’s what would hit me.”

Warner also earned a Grammy nomination in 2023 for best spoken word poetry album for “Hiding In Plain View.”

In June 2024, Warner started the podcast “Not All Hood” with Candace Kelly, where they talked about mental health in the Black community and more.

He told People in May 2024 that the podcast was a space for him to “be as vulnerable as I allow myself to be.”

“So many of our Black images and so much of our Black music shows one side of our Black culture,” he said. “We want to make sure that we can balance that out with the many other aspects of Black culture out there.”

In 2013, Warner told the Archive of American Television that his “proudest achievement” in life was “being able to have a post-Cosby life and post-Cosby career and still have my head on as straight as possible.”

“I’ve had such an awesome life,” he said at the time. “I’ve got my ups and downs and all of that, but if I die tomorrow, I know I would go with a smile on my face.”

He added, “I have peace of mind and for me, you can’t put a price on that. And I can definitely say that I feel successful in my post-Cosby life and having a peace of mind.” source

Hollywood stars honored Malcolm-Jamal Warner with moving tributes to “The Cosby Show” actor shared one day after his drowning death in Costa Rica. He was 54.

Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé and Kate Hudson were just a few colleagues who paid respects online to Warner.

“Spent time working on a film in Australia with Malcolm and he was the kindest and sweetest,” Kate Hudson wrote on her Instagram stories. “My heart is heavy and sending such love to @malcolmjamalwar family.”

Working alongside him on The Resident was an honor,” Morris Chestnut shared online. “He brought so much depth, warmth, and wisdom to every scene and every conversation. Warner’s former “9-1-1” co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt posted in her Instagram stories, “I cannot believe this. This hurts my heart. A gentleman, an incredible talent and we were so lucky to have him in the 911 family. Heartbroken and sending love to his family.”

Tracee Ellis Ross shared a carousel of images with Warner online, and wrote, “I love you, Malcolm. First I met you as Theo with the rest of the world then you were my first TV husband. My heart is so so sad. What an actor and friend you were: warm, gentle, present, kind, thoughtful, deep, funny, elegant. You made the world a brighter place. Sending so much love to your family. I’m so sorry for this unimaginable loss.”

Viola Davis wrote on Instagram, “I actually am speechless!!!!! No words! Theo was our son, our brother, our friend… He was absolutely so familiar, and we rejoiced at how TV got it right!! But… Malcolm got it right… and now… we reveled in your life and are gutted by this loss. Blessings and prayers to your family and loved ones… We will speak your name—always.”

Taraji P. Henson admitted Warner’s death “hurt” in a post shared online. “Malcolm, we grew up with you,” she wrote. “Thank you for the art, the wisdom, the grace you gave us!!!!! You left the world better than you found it. Rest easy, king!!!! Your legacy lives far beyond the screen.”

Warner co-hosted the “Not All Hood” podcast with Candace Kelly, a platform where different lived experiences were discussed from within the Black community.

“We’re heartbroken by the unexpected passing of Malcolm-Jamal Warner,” the Fanbase network said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. “On Fanbase, he showed us what it means to be a creator with purpose, Malcolm brought intention, integrity, and brilliance wherever he was. Warner was swimming Sunday at Playa Grande de Cocles in the Limon province when a current pulled him into deeper waters, Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department claimed.

“He was rescued by people on the beach,” an initial report stated, but first responders could not revive the actor.

Warner gained fame as the son of Heathcliff Huxtable, played by Bill Cosby, on “The Cosby Show” from 1984 to 1992. He appeared in all 197 episodes of the NBC sitcom.

In 1986, Warner earned an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a comedy.

The show’s legacy was tarnished after Cosby was accused of sexual assault. Cosby’s 2018 conviction was overturned in 2021. Since then, five more women have come forward with accusations against the comedian.

Despite the controversy, Warner was still proud of the show.

“Regardless of how some people may feel about the show now, I’m still proud of the legacy and having been a part of such an iconic show that had such a profound impact on – first and foremost, Black culture – but also American culture,” Warner told People magazine in 2023. source

Talk show host Jerry Springer has died at the age of 79.

Springer’s publicist Linda Shafran confirmed his passing to Fox News Digital on Thursday morning. The TV personality died from pancreatic cancer, according to Springer’s spiritual leader and friend Rabbi Sandford Kopnick.

“Jerry’s ability to connect with people was at the heart of his success in everything he tried whether that was politics, broadcasting or just joking with people on the street who wanted a photo or a word,” said Jene Galvin, a family spokesperson and friend of Springer’s since 1970, in a statement. “He’s irreplaceable and his loss hurts immensely, but memories of his intellect, heart and humor will live on.”Springer died peacefully at home in suburban Chicago after a brief illness, the statement said. He was surrounded by his family.

Geraldo Rivera paid tribute to Springer shortly after the news was announced.

At its peak, “The Jerry Springer Show” was a ratings powerhouse and a U.S. cultural pariah, synonymous with lurid drama. Known for chair-throwing and bleep-filled arguments, the daytime talk show was a favorite American guilty pleasure over its 27-year run, at one point topping Oprah Winfrey’s show.

After more than 4,000 episodes, the show ended in 2018, never straying from its core salaciousness: Some of its last episodes had such titles as “Stripper Sex Turned Me Straight,” “Stop Pimpin’ My Twin Sister” and “Hooking Up With My Therapist.”

Before his TV career, Springer earned a political science degree from Tulane University. He completed his education with a law degree from Northwestern.

The TV personality entered politics as a political campaign adviser to Robert F. Kennedy, and would later immerse himself in the local political arena of Cincinnati.

Springer served five terms on the city council before running for mayor at the age of 33. He also ran for governor of Ohio in 1982.

Springer then launched his journalism career by becoming the anchor and managing editor of a local Cincinnati news station in 1983. He earned eight local Emmy Awards for his work.

After gaining nationwide fame with “The Jerry Springer Show,” he began acting and appeared in numerous TV shows and movies. He’s most known for his roles in “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me,” “Ringmaster,” “The Defender” and “Domino.”

In 2019, Springer launched the show “Judge Jerry.” The small-claims court show ran for three seasons and featured Springer hearing actual court cases in front of a live studio audience.

Funeral services for Springer, along with a memorial gathering, are currently being developed, the family’s statement said.

“To remember Jerry, the family asks that in lieu of flowers you consider following his spirit and make a donation or commit to an act of kindness to someone in need or a worthy advocacy organization. As he always said, ‘Take care of yourself, and each other.'”

According to the Mayo Clinic, pancreatic cancer grows in the tissues of a person’s pancreas, an organ that is located behind the lower part of a person’s stomach, and cancer, according to the Cleveland Clinic’s website, occurs when cells within a person mutate and multiply out of control.

There are two types of pancreatic cancer, according to the Cleveland Clinic, with exocrine tumors, or pancreatic cancer that begins in the cells that line the pancreas, making up 90% of all cases. Meanwhile, less than 10% of pancreatic tumors are neuroendocrine tumors, or tumors that originate from specialized cells that link up a person’s hormone management system to the nervous system.

Actress Annie Wersching, known for roles in shows like 24, Timeless, Runaways, and Bosch, has died. She was 45.

Wersching passed away from cancer, as confirmed by her publicist via Deadline. The actress was diagnosed in 2020 but continued to work, putting on riveting performances in the TV shows Star Trek: Picard and The Rookie.

She is survived by her husband, fellow actor Stephen Full–who’s appeared in Santa Clarita Diet and Dog With a Blog–and the couple’s three sons, Freddie, 12, Ozzie, 9, and Archie, 4.

Walters notably created ‘The View’ talk show

Barbara Walters, a pioneer for women in broadcasting and Emmy Award winner has died at 93, ABC News confirmed.

Walters was a longtime ABC News anchor who also hosted the primetime show “20/20” and created the women’s talk show “The View” in 1997.

Walters was born September 25, 1929, in Boston, and soon after graduating from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y., she took a job as a writer for CBS.

Later, in 1974, she joined NBC’s “Today” show as the first female host, after rising through the ranks at the peacock network, according to the New York Post’s PageSix.

Two years later, she joined ABC News, where she became the first female anchor of an evening news program and earned an unprecedented-for-the-time $1 million salary.

It was at ABC News where she would make her biggest mark on journalism, first as a co-host of the popular “20/20” newsmagazine, and later creating “The View” in 1997. The morning talk show’s first regular panelists were Walters, Meredith Viera, Star Jones, Joy Behar and Debbie Matenopoulos.

Walters left the roundtable in 2014 but stayed on with “The View” as executive producer, according to the Post.

Walters’ exclusive interviews with rulers, royalty and entertainers brought her celebrity status that ranked with theirs, while placing her at the forefront of the trend in broadcast journalism that made stars of TV reporters and brought news programs into the race for higher ratings.

In 2004, Walters reflected on her success, remarking that she never imagined becoming a star news anchor:

Of her interview style, Walters remarked to the Associated Press in 2008, “I’m not afraid when I’m interviewing, I have no fear.”

During her tenure in the news, Walters held several high-profile interviews, including a 2-hour sit down with former Clinton White House intern Monica Lewinsky in 1999; her first following the infamous scandal that led to the president’s impeachment.

She also interviewed Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, President Richard Nixon, Russian President Vladimir Putin – and lighter fare including Kermit The Frog & Miss Piggy, as well as Justin Bieber.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times in 2013 about her retirement from journalism, Walters said she did not want to anchor another program or “climb another mountain.”

“I want to instead sit on a sunny field and admire the very gifted women — and OK, some men too — who will be taking my place,” she told the paper.

On Fox News’ “Hannity” Friday, media critic Joe Concha reacted to Walters’ death, saying the late journalist embodied the best of the profession.

“[W]e talk about liberal bias and we talk about all the things that are wrong with media now today in America. But there was a time, particularly back in the 70s, in the 80s, where Barbara Walters was a great journalist and a real trailblazer, for that matter, for females within this profession as far as anchoring before anybody else even thought about putting a female anchor on the air,” he said.

“And then obviously she came up with the idea for The View back in the 90s — It’s not the view that we watch today, obviously, but her idea at the time was an exchange of ideas and debate from all sides. And she will be missed.”

Missing 20-year-old found dead after Christmas Day search

Stillwater, Minn. — A Christmas Day search ended in tragedy: Stillwater Police said missing 20-year-old George Musser was found dead around 7 p.m. in Baytown Township, CBS Minnesota reported.

“George’s family has been notified. There is no other information at this time as this case is still under investigation,” police said Sunday.

Hundreds of people had gathered on Christmas morning to take part in a search for Musser, who was last seen at a bar in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area early Saturday morning, CBS Minnesota’s Ren Clayton reports. He was at Brian’s Bar in downtown Stillwater, the station says.

Ally McKay was one of the last people to see him.

“At approximately 1:30 a.m., he came up to the booth I was sitting in with my friends and he was talking to us,” said McKay. “And he told us he had to go to the bathroom and then he never returned.”

Musser’s keys and wallet were found near the bar. His car was still in the parking lot. He was wearing a black beanie, a grey button-up flannel and dark jeans. He didn’t have a jacket on despite frigid temperatures.

“We looked for him at the bar’s closing, but Brian’s was persistent that everyone get out, so we left and we had to assume that he had found his way home,” said McKay.

“We’re preparing for the worst but hoping for the best — and that’s why we’re getting everyone in the community to start looking,” said Emily Dalbec, Musser’s cousin.

Family and friends searched on Saturday and that continued, in greater numbers, on Christmas Day.

Kirstie Alley died following a “battle with cancer,” according to her family. She was 71.

“We are sad to inform you that our incredible, fierce and loving mother has passed away after a battle with cancer, only recently discovered,” a statement posted by her children on her official Twitter account said.

“She was surrounded by her closest family and fought with great strength, leaving us with a certainty of her never-ending joy of living and whatever adventures lie ahead.”Alley earned an Emmy Award and also a Golden Globe Award for her breakout role as Rebecca Howe in the late ’80s sitcom “Cheers,” which also starred Ted Danson, Shelley Long, Woody Harrelson, and Rhea Perlman.

“As iconic as she was on screen, she was an even more amazing mother and grandmother. We are grateful to the incredible team of doctors and nurses at the Moffitt Cancer Center for their care.

“Our mother’s zest and passion for life, her children, grandchildren and her many animals, not to mention her eternal joy of creating, were unparalleled and leave us inspired to live life to the fullest just as she did.”

The statement ended, “We thank you for your love and prayers and ask that you respect our privacy at this difficult time. With love always, True and Lillie Parker.”

Alley was also known for starring on the silver screen, with roles in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan,” “Summer School, “Look Who’s Talking,” “It Takes Two,” and “For Richer or Poorer.”

Tim Allen tweeted his condolences to the late actress Monday, “A sweet soul pass on in Kristie Alley. Sad, sad news. Prayers for all her family.”

Alley finished in second place on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2011, was a runner-up on “Celebrity Big Brother” in 2018, and recently appeared as the Baby Mammoth on “The Masked Singer.”

The “Drop Dead Gorgeous” star is survived by her two kids, son William and daughter Lillie. Both of her children she adopted with her ex-husband, Parker Stevenson.
