GOODBYE MIRAGE: EXAMINING THE IMMEASURABLE IMPACT OF A LAS VEGAS ICON

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Mirage closed Wednesday morning with a farewell ceremony after a 34-year era on the Las Vegas Strip.

The final farewell event for the iconic property happened at 9 a.m. with the doors officially closing at 11 a.m.

Once the doors close, the process will start to renovate the property into a Hard Rock International resort. The company purchased the Mirage from MGM Resorts International in 2023 for $1.08 billion. Plans include building a guitar-shaped hotel where the current volcano attraction is right now.

Speakers scheduled for Wednesday included Jim Allen, Chairman of Hard Rock International and CEO of Seminole Gaming, along with Joe Lupo, President of The Mirage Hotel & Casino, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas.

Former Las Vegas Mayor Jan Jones addressed the crowd along with Alan Feldman, a distinguished fellow in responsible gaming for UNLV’s International Gaming Institute. source
