On 20 May 2013, after working for Booz Allen Hamilton for less than three months, Snowden flew to Hong Kong after leaving his job at the NSA facility in Hawaii. There he revealed the classified NSA documents that he had been collecting during the past year to journalists Glenn Greenwald, Laura Poitras and Ewen MacAskill, giving them an insight into the NSA‘s many unwarranted mass-surveillance and data-collecting programs that, according to Snowden, were unconstitutional.Stories based on the Snowden revelations have since appeared in The Washington Post, The Guardian, Der Spiegel, The New York Times and others. Although many of the disclosures in the international press are based on the information revealed by Snowden, some of them have been falsely attributed to him, indicating that there are other sources of information leaks as well.On 23 June 2013, Snowden left Hong Kong and flew to Moscow with the intent to travel on to a South American country. However, as his passport had meanwhile been revoked by the US, he got stuck in Russia where he eventually obtained temporary asylum for one year. This was later extended by another three years. He is currently living at an undisclosed address in Russia.

Edward Snowden is regarded by some as a dissident, a patriot, a whistleblower and even a hero, but is called a traitor and a spy by others. In any case, his remarkable disclosures have fueled the worldwide debate about mass-surveillance, privacy, information security and (inter)national interests. The information provided here is largely based on the Wikipedia page about Edward Snowden and credits are due to the many contributors listed at the bottom of that page [1].

On 2 September 2020, a US federal court ruled that the NSA‘s mass surveillance program was illegal and possibly unconstitutional. During his tenure, US President Donald Trump hinted on several occasions that he might be willing to pardon Snowden, but so far no action was taken.

American film director Oliver Stone has made a feature film about Edward Snowden, based on the books Time of the Octopus, written by Snowden’s Russian lawyer Anatoly Kucherena, and The Snowden Files by Luke Harding. The movie shows how Snowden was first trained by the CIA and then worked for the NSA, where he began to question the legality of the NSA‘s mass surveillance program and the unwarranted tapping and recording of everybodies personal communications.

It gives us a revealing insight about what the NSA‘s surveillance program is really capable of, but leaves it to the viewer to decide whether Snowden should be called a hero or a traitor.

Making and financing the movie in the US appeared to be very difficult, if not impossible, so Stone diverted to Munich (Germany) where much of the movie was shot. The screenplay is by Oliver Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Edward Snowden.

Crypto Museum was asked to supply cryptographic and espionage equipment for the movie. Together with one other museum and a private collector, we brought together well over 100 objects that are visible in several scenes.

Most of the objects were used to recreate the internal cipher museum at the Hill, the CIA‘s training center in Virginia (US), but you may also spot the STE crypto phones in the CIA office in Geneva. In March 2015, Crypto Museum’s Marc Simons and Paul Reuvers travelled to Munich to assist in the shooting of these scenes. Although photographing was not allowed on the film set, most of the actors took the opportunity to make a ‘selfie’ with the famous Enigma machine…

During the several weeks of shooting in Munich, the more than 60 objects from our collection were treated extremely well by the production team. All personnel was informed that the staged museum contained ‘real museum pieces’, which had to be treated as such. After several months, the high-value pieces were returned to us without a single scratch. But not without an incident: when the production company’s courrier returned the items, his unmarked van was pulled over at the German motorway twice. On both occasions the police searched the vehicle and summoned the driver to open the boxes, which he refused. Coincidence or intimidation? You decide. source

Classified US National Security Agency maps leaked by Mr Snowden and published by US journalist Glenn Greenwald in the Brazilian O Globo newspaper reveal the locations of dozens of US and allied signals intelligence collection sites that contribute to interception of telecommunications and internet traffic worldwide.

The New Zealand Government Security Communications Bureau facility at Waihopai near Blenheim also contributes to the program.

X-Keyscore reportedly processes all signals before they are shunted off to various “production lines” that deal with specific issues and the exploitation of different data types for analysis – variously code-named Nucleon (voice), Pinwale (video), Mainway (call records) and Marina (internet records). US intelligence expert William Arkin describes X-Keyscore as a “national Intelligence collection mission system”.

Worldwide web

The documents published by O Globo show that US and allied signals intelligence collection facilities are distributed worldwide, located at US and allied military and other facilities as well as US embassies and consulates.

Fairfax Media recently reported the construction of a new state-of-the-art data storage facility at HMAS Harman to support the Australian signals directorate and other Australian intelligence agencies.

SUBSCRIBE

In an interview published in the German Der Spiegel magazine on Sunday, Mr Snowden said the NSA operates broad secret intelligence partnerships with other western governments, some of which are now complaining about its programs.

Mr Snowden said that the other partners in the “Five Eyes” intelligence alliance of the US, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand “sometimes go even further than the [National Security Agency] people themselves.”

He highlighted the British Government Communications Headquarters “Tempora” program as an example:

“Tempora is the first ‘I save everything’ approach (‘full take’) in the intelligence world. It sucks in all data, no matter what it is, and which rights are violated by it. … Right now, the system is capable of saving three days’ worth of traffic, but that will be optimised. Three days may perhaps not sound like a lot, but it’s not just about connection metadata. ‘Full take’ means that the system saves everything. If you send a data packet and if makes its way through the UK, we will get it. If you download anything, and the server is in the UK, then we get it.”

Mr Snowden also argued that the “Five eyes” partnerships are organised so that authorities in each country can “insulate their political leaders from the backlash” when it became public “how grievously they’re violating global privacy”.

The Der Spiegel interview was conducted by US cryptography expert Jacob Appelbaum and documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras via encrypted emails shortly before Mr Snowden revealed himself publicly as the source of leaks of highly classified information on US signals intelligence and surveillance programs.

Another US NSA whistle-blower William Binney also recently disclosed that Australia was involved in the trial of an earlier US-designed Internet traffic interception and analysis program codenamed “ThinThread”.

Other countries involved in the trials were the UK, Australia and Germany a decade ago. ThinThread was not adopted but Australia has also been directly involved with later collection programs codenamed “Trailblazer”, “Turbulence” and “Trafficthief”.

The US government has charged Mr Snowden with offences including espionage and revoked his passport.

He has been stranded at a Moscow airport for two weeks after leaving Hong Kong where the US Government has sought his extradition.

Three Latin American countries, Venezuela, Bolivia and Nicaragua, have now offered Mr Snowden political asylum after European Governments last week denied their airspace to a plane carrying the Bolivian president Evo Morales home from a conference in Moscow after the US State Department alleged that the former US intelligence contractor was on board.

Russian officials have publicly urged Mr Snowden to take up Venezuela’s asylum offer. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jaua said on Sunday that his government had not yet been in contact with Mr Snowden.

Mr Jaua said he expected to consult on Monday with Russian officials. Mr Snowden is being assisted by the anti-secrecy organisation, WikiLeaks.

‘The existence of complex historical programs involving the coordinated retrieval and study of exotic materials, dating back to the early 20th century, should no longer remain a secret.’

Grusch, who served in Afghanistan and worked for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), has handed over details of the alleged operations to Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General.

He said the evidence amounted to spacecraft from other species.

A retired Army Colonel who was also part of the UAP task force, Karl Nell, said: ‘His assertion concerning the existence of a terrestrial arms race occurring sub-rosa over the past eighty years focused on reverse engineering technologies of unknown origin is fundamentally correct, as is the indisputable realization that at least some of these technologies of unknown origin derive from non-human intelligence.’

Grusch said that keeping the information secret ‘further inhibits the world populace to be prepared for an unexpected, non-human intelligence contact scenario’.

The claims comes days after a Pentagon chief admitted that unidentified metallic orb UFOs have been spotted ‘all over the world’.

Physicist Dr Sean Kirkpatrick, director of the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), told NASA’s first ever public hearing into the phenomenon: ‘We see these [‘metallic orbs’] all over the world, and we see these making very interesting apparent maneuvers.’

Dr Kirkpatrick presented AARO’s latest findings to NASA’s independent team of scientists and other experts who have been tasked with studying the UFO phenomenon — which has become increasingly less stigmatized following several high-profile congressional hearings and military sightings.

Scientists and policymakers from NASA’s independent panel also discussed their own proposed recommendations to the federal space agency, including: an active effort to remove the stigma surrounding UAP research, as well as a hunt for alien ‘artifacts’ within our solar system.

Meanwhile, it was also revealed at the NASA hearing that the space agency will work closely with the Pentagon’s official UFO investigators on top secret UFO cases.

Dr Kirkpatrick said that the Pentagon is closely collaborating with ‘NASA embeds,’ scientists who have been cleared for work on classified UAP cases where their expertise could help military investigators identify the mysterious craft or events.

Kirkpatrick added that AARO plans to deploy ‘dedicated sensors for typical UAP’ sightings, equipment independent of the existing military defense sensors that have thus far picked up UAP evidence in the course of their normal duties.

Both NASA’s head of science, the space and atmospheric physicist Dr. Nicky Fox, and AARO’s director, Dr. Kirkpatrick, also took time to rebuke unnamed individuals for harassing members of the NASA panel.

Both said that these attitudes, online and among officialdom, have contributed to the continuing social stigma surrounding UAP.

NASA UAP study group member Karlin Toner, senior advisor for data policy integration of the FAA’s Office of Aviation Policy and Plans, recommended that the space agency work to ‘make it safer to explore data’ for any scientists facing the ‘negative stigma’ surrounding UAP.

Toner suggested that the independent panel ‘consider advising NASA to more fully assess the cultural and social barriers to studying and reporting UAP,’ to effectively work hard to end the stigma on UAP research among the scientific community.

NASA, she said, should ‘implement a plan to leverage its brand image to start removing these obstacles.’

Ultimately, however, as the chair of NASA’s independent UAP panel, theoretical astrophysicist David Spergel, described it, their group’s main purpose is to answer this one question: ‘How can NASA contribute to understanding the nature of UAPs?’

He summarized the current state of data collection efforts on UAP as ‘unsystematic’ and ‘fragmented across various agencies’ often using instruments that were fit for their security or safety mandate, but ‘uncalibrated for scientific data collection.

Dr. Garry Nolan spoke at a conference in Manhattan in May titled ‘The Pentagon, Extraterrestrial Intelligence and Crashed UFOs’ and claimed that aliens have been on earth and are ‘still here’

A Stanford University professor also recently made the claim that aliens have been on planet Earth and are ‘still here,’ with experts are working on reverse engineering UFOs that have crash landed.

Dr. Garry Nolan told ‘The Pentagon, Extraterrestrial Intelligence and Crashed UFOs’ conference in Manhattan in May that aliens on earth are probably ‘an advanced form of intelligence that using some kind of intermediaries’.

Nolan, an immunologist and Nobel Prize nominee, was previously commissioned by the CIA to investigate cases of the mysterious Havana Syndrome inflicting embassy officials worldwide, and has conducted experiments analyzing material allegedly jettisoned in UFO flyovers.

Intelligence Office Whistleblower Claims U.S. Has UFO’s Of Non-Human Origin

36-year-old David Charles Grusch, a veteran of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), claims the United States has retrieved and studied UFOs of non-human origin.

“We are not talking about prosaic origins or identities,” Grusch told The Debrief. “The material includes intact and partially intact vehicles.”

“Grusch claims he has given Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General extensive classified information about deeply covert programs that he says possess retrieved intact and partially intact craft of non-human origin,” The Debrief reports.

He also claims that the information has been illegally withheld from Congress. The Debrief states that other intelligence officials, both active and retired, have independently corroborated the information.

Grusch said the recoveries of partial fragments through and up to intact vehicles have been made for decades through the present day by the government, its allies, and defense contractors. Analysis has determined that the objects retrieved are “of exotic origin (non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or unknown origin) based on the vehicle morphologies and material science testing and the possession of unique atomic arrangements and radiological signatures,” he said.

Recently retired Army Colonel and current aerospace executive Karl E. Nell says Grusch’s character is “beyond reproach.” Nell worked as the Army’s liaison for the UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, or UFO) Task Force from 2021 to 2022.

Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence Christopher Mellon added, “A number of well-placed current and former officials have shared detailed information with me regarding this alleged program, including insights into the history, governing documents and the location where a craft was allegedly abandoned and recovered.

“However, it is a delicate matter getting this potentially explosive information into the right hands for validation. This is made harder by the fact that, rightly or wrongly, a number of potential sources do not trust the leadership of the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office established by Congress.”

“The non-human intelligence phenomenon is real. We are not alone,” Jonathan Grey of the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC) said. “Retrievals of this kind are not limited to the United States. This is a global phenomenon, and yet a global solution continues to elude us.”

This is far from the first time someone in government has claimed the U.S. has retrieved UFOs of non-human-origin

This past March, Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett claimed the United States government has alien tech in its possession and that it is currently being reverse-engineered.

In January, Burchett claimed, “This thing is a huge cover-up, for whatever reason. And I just feel like America is ready, we need to know, and to stop with all the shenanigans.”

Last year, in a Congressional addendum to the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023, lawmakers made revisions to their definition of a “UFO” to include objects that are not human in origin.

Last fall, Marik von Rennenkampff, a former United States Department of Defense official, said about the change in definition, “It strains credulity to believe that lawmakers would include such extraordinary language in public legislation without compelling evidence.”

In December, a leaked photo from a secret Pentagon task force showed a UFO flying near a U.S. Navy jet that military officials admitted could be “alien” or “non-human technology.”

And back in 2020, Eric W. Davis, an astrophysicist who worked as a subcontractor and then a consultant for the Pentagon UFO program, claimed he examined materials that “we couldn’t make it ourselves.”

He also claimed he gave classified briefings to a Defense Department agency in March of 2020 in which the retrieval and examination of “off-world vehicles not made on this earth” were discussed. source

In 2017, the New York Times revealed that former senator Harry Reid had previously snuck away $22 million in Defense funding to investigate unidentified foreign objects. Since then, some Navy pilots have come forward to report frequent UFO sightings, while the Pentagon has revamped its investigation process in an effort to take the matter more seriously. The increased scrutiny hasn’t led to any breakthroughs; it turns out many of the objects the pilots sighted were just balloons.

But a new report from Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal — part of the team that broke the Times story in 2017 — gives hope to the alien optimists.
On the science website the Debrief, the pair describe the story of a Defense intelligence whistleblower, David Charles Grusch, who has alleged that the Intelligence Community is hiding classified evidence of “intact and partially intact craft of non-human origin.”In a later interview with NewsNation, Grusch even claimed that the government has evidence of alien life in crashed spacecraft from another planet. “Well, naturally, when you recover something that’s either landed or crashed, smetimes you encounter dead pilots,” he said. “And believe it or not, as fantastical as that sounds, it’s true.”

Grusch claims in a complaint that the Pentagon, other nations, and defense contractors have recovered fragments “of exotic origin (non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or unknown origin) based on the vehicle morphologies and material science testing and the possession of unique atomic arrangements and radiological signatures.” Grusch goes on to state that the “material includes intact and partially intact vehicles.”

Grusch is a 36-year-old combat veteran of Afghanistan who was a member of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force, the program run by the Office of Naval Intelligence to investigate UFO sightings. From 2019 to 2021, he served on the task force as the representative of the National Reconnaissance Office, considered one of the big five of the U.S. intelligence agencies. His colleagues think highly of him, too. Karl Nell, a retired Army colonel who was also on the UFO task force, told the Debrief that Grusch was “beyond reproach.” Nell even backed up one of Grusch’s claims in the complaint: that there is an ongoing competition with other countries to “identify [UFO] crashes/landings and retrieve the material for exploitation/reverse engineering.”

“His assertion concerning the existence of a terrestrial arms race occurring sub-rosa over the past eighty years focused on reverse engineering technologies of unknown origin is fundamentally correct,” Nell told the Debrief. “As is the indisputable realization that at least some of these technologies of unknown origin derive from non-human intelligence.” Another intelligence official investigating UFOs, Jonathan Grey, concurred. “The non-human intelligence phenomenon is real. We are not alone,” he said. “This is a global phenomenon, and yet a global solution continues to elude us.”

An unclassified version of the complaint shared with the Debrief states that the evidence of extraterrestrial tech was illegally withheld from congressional oversight by the Intelligence Community in order to “purposely and intentionally thwart legitimate Congressional oversight of the UAP Program.” When Grusch raised the concern, he was subject to months of retaliation. (He requested that the details of that retaliation be withheld “to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation,” per the report.) An intelligence investigation has been launched in response to his whistleblower complaint. While the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence did not comment, the Pentagon cleared the information in the report in April. (The Debrief has also provided a look into its fact checking and reporting process for the story.)

n ex-U.S. military and intelligence worker has given an interview in which he says that the U.S. has found and covered up several “non-human origin” crafts.

David Grusch, a 36-year-old airforce veteran, told NewsNation on Monday evening that a top-secret military program found the wreckage of fully intact UFOs, or “unidentified aerial phenomena” (UAPs).

“These are retrieving non-human origin technical vehicles, call it spacecraft if you will, non-human exotic origin vehicles that have either landed or crashed,” Grusch said. He added that, in those wreckages, the pilots of the craft were found.

“Well, naturally, when you recover something that’s either landed or crashed, sometimes you encounter dead pilots and, believe it or not, as fantastical as that sounds, it’s true,” the whistleblower said. Grusch previously worked as the National Reconnaissance Office’s representative to the UAP Task Force. He also saw combat in Afghanistan.

There were 510 UAP sightings in 2022, up from the 366 in the previous year, according to a report from the Office for the Director of National Intelligence in January. Only 171 of these were deemed to “appear to have demonstrated unusual flight characteristics or performance capabilities, and require further analysis,” according to the report. The remainder were “balloon-like entities,” or clutter.

Grusch’s claims cannot be verified by Newsweek, but they have kickstarted a discussion on social media about whether aliens could be on our planet.

SIGN UP FOR NEWSWEEK’S EMAIL UPDATES >

“The majority of UAPs can be accounted for as balloons, drones, or drifting aerial junk. In some cases, the visual impression is impacted by ‘perspective bias,’ where a slow nearby object looks like a large, rapid, distant object,” Joshua Semeter previously told Newsweek. He is a professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the Center for Space Physics at Boston University.

“That said, there is a small percentage of observations that remain unexplained. These cases generally involve an object that exhibits unusual flight characteristics—for instance, rapid acceleration, rapid velocity, or extreme maneuverability—characteristics that cannot readily be accounted for through known technologies,” said Semeter, who is also a member of NASA’s independent panel to study UAPs.

The U.S. government has declassified several videos of UAPs in recent months, one of which showing an mysterious orb flying in the Middle East in 2022. The Navy has verified footage released in 2017 by The New York Times and the The Washington Post of a Tic-Tac-shaped craft flying off the coast of California.

Grusch also told NewsNation that the federal government has been lying to the people to cover up the existence of these craft. “There is a sophisticated disinformation campaign targeting the U.S. populace, which is extremely unethical and immoral,” he said.

In 2023, other officials have made similar allegations. In January, a Tennessee Republican congressman Tim Burchett accused the U.S. government of a “huge cover-up” following a rise in UAPs, during an interview also with NewsNation. Burchett told Newsweek in March that he believed “we have recovered a craft at some point, and possible beings.”

And in that same month, Christopher Mellon, a former deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Intelligence, wrote in Politico that he knew of a secret government program “involving the analysis and exploitation of materials recovered from off-world craft.”

In 2020, one defense contractor told the New York Times that he had briefed Defence Department officials, regarding objects from “off-world vehicles not made on this Earth.”

“My personal belief is that there is very compelling evidence that we may not be alone,” Luis Elizondo, the former military intelligence official who led a government UFO program, told CNN in 2017. However, no solid evidence of these claims has yet come to light.

“Without sufficient data, we are unable to reach defendable conclusions that meet the high scientific standards we set for resolution, and I will not close a case that we cannot defend the conclusions of,” Sean M. Kirkpatrick said at a meeting of the subcommittee discussing the declassified government videos in April. He is director of the Pentagon’s newly instated All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO).

“I should also state clearly for the record that, in our research, AARO has found no credible evidence thus far of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology, or objects that defy the known laws of physics,” Kirkpatrick added. source

Whistleblower: U.S. Has Been Sitting on Recovered ‘Crafts’ of Extraterrestrial, Non-Human Origin for Decades

The whistleblower says that American authorities have retrieved intact and partially intact crafts of alien origin as part of a global arms race to harness technology of so-called ‘non-human origin.’

Department of Defense via AP
A whistleblower from the American intelligence community has reportedly come forward with allegations that the U.S. military has for years been in possession of materials of non-human, or extraterrestrial, origin and illegally withheld the details from members of Congress.

In a blockbuster report that first surfaced on a science and technology news site, the Debrief, the whistleblower says that American authorities have retrieved intact and partially intact crafts of alien origin as part of a global arms race to harness technology of so-called non-human origin.

Analysis of the material, the whistleblower said in a statement to the intelligence community’s Inspector General, has determined that the objects retrieved are “of exotic origin (non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or unknown origin) based on the vehicle morphologies and material science testing and the possession of unique atomic arrangements and radiological signatures.”

The whistleblower, David Charles Grusch, is a former combat officer in Afghanistan and a veteran of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the National Reconnaissance Office, both of which are attached to the Department of Defense. He reportedly served as the reconnaissance office’s representative to the Pentagon’s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force between 2019 and 2021, and later as the geospatial intelligence agency’s point man on the task force.

The task force, part of the office of naval intelligence, was charged with collecting and analyzing reports of what used to be referred to as Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs, which are now universally referred to as UAPs, or Unidentified Aerial — or Anomalous — Phenomena, by the intelligence community. That group has since been absorbed by an office within the defense department known as the All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office.

In an exclusive interview with NewsNation scheduled to air Monday night, Mr. Grusch says U.S. officials have retrieved “quite a few” of what he describes as alien “spacecraft.”

“These are retrieving non-human origin technical vehicles — call it spacecraft if you will, though it’s probably not the right parlance — but, no kidding, non-human, exotic-origin vehicles that have either landed or crashed.”

The report in the DeBrief says a number of officials in the intelligence community have corroborated Mr. Grusch’s allegations both on and off the record. Mr. Grusch is being represented by Charles McCullough, who served as the first Intelligence Community Inspector General and is now in private practice at Washington, D.C.

In a complaint filed with the inspector general’s office, Mr. Grusch alleges that the information in question has been illegally withheld from Congress for decades and he has been subjected to retaliation from some in the intelligence community for his attempt to disclose these truths.

In his statements, Mr. Grusch — who left the government in April of this year — disclosed the existence of what he described as a previously secret global “Cold War” by countries to identify, obtain, and exploit alien crafts recovered in whole or in part at sites across the globe.

An officer with the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, Jonathan Grey, tells the DeBrief, “The non-human intelligence phenomenon is real. We are not alone. Retrievals of this kind are not limited to the United States. This is a global phenomenon.”

Evidence of the crafts is being held by what are described as “highly secret black programs” tied to American defense and intelligence agencies. Mr. Grusch has filed his complaint in an effort to pull back the curtain on the activities of some of the agencies involved.

“The existence of complex historical programs involving the coordinated retrieval and study of exotic materials, dating back to the early 20th century, should no longer remain a secret,” Mr. Grey, who is speaking publicly for the first time on the issue, said according to the DeBrief.

“The majority of retrieved, foreign exotic materials have a prosaic terrestrial explanation and origin — but not all, and any number higher than zero in this category represents an undeniably significant statistical percentage.” source

WASHINGTON (Nexstar) – A whistleblower says he handed over classified evidence proving that a secret government program has been recovering spaceships and aliens for decades.

A former intelligence and military official, David Grusch, says the secret government program has recovered non-human spacecraft.

“We’re definitely not alone,” Grusch said. “When you recover something that’s either landed or crashed, sometimes you encounter dead pilots. Believe or not, as fantastical as that sounds, it’s true.”

The lawmakers Nexstar spoke with say they’re not aware of a secret UFO recovery program.

“I am a defense appropriator, I am part of classified briefings — this is nothing that has come up,” Rep. Pete Aguilar (D-CA) said.

Other lawmakers say they will wait for more information.

“We’ll have to listen to the facts,” Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) said.

Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) added, “My first reaction is probably like everybody watching, which is wow. And secondly, I’ll believe it when I see it.”

Grusch says he turned evidence that the UFO recovery program exists over to the inspector general of the U.S. intelligence community. Congressman Phillips says whether a secret government program has recovered UFOs and aliens deserves to be investigated by Congress.Phillips added, “I’ve seen no evidence of it whatsoever. And if there are actually aliens or space craft that exist in some warehouse, in a government warehouse somewhere of course, I want to know as much as all of you.” source

The US has been urged to disclose evidence of UFOs after a whistleblower former intelligence official said the government has possession of “intact and partially intact” alien vehicles.

The former intelligence official David Grusch, who led analysis of unexplained anomalous phenomena (UAP) within a US Department of Defense agency, has alleged that the US has craft of non-human origin.

Information on these vehicles is being illegally withheld from Congress, Grusch told the Debrief. Grusch said when he turned over classified information about the vehicles to Congress he suffered retaliation from government officials. He left the government in April after a 14-year career in US intelligence.

Jonathan Grey, a current US intelligence official at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center (Nasic), confirmed the existence of “exotic materials” to the Debrief, adding: “We are not alone.”

The disclosures come after a swell of credible sightings and reports have revived attention in alien ships, and potentially visits, in recent years.

In 2021, the Pentagon released a report on UAP – the term is preferred to UFO by much of the extraterrestrial community – which found more than 140 instances of UAP encounters that could not be explained.

The report followed a leak of military footage that showed apparently inexplicable happenings in the sky, while navy pilots testified that they had frequently had encounters with strange craft off the US coast.

In an interview with the Debrief journalists Leslie Kean and Ralph Blumenthal, who previously exposed the existence of a secret Pentagon program that investigated UFOs, Grusch said the US government and defense contractors had been recovering fragments of non-human craft, and in some cases entire craft, for decades.

“We are not talking about prosaic origins or identities,” Grusch said. “The material includes intact and partially intact vehicles.”

Grusch told the Debrief that analysis determined that this material is “of exotic origin” – meaning “non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or unknown origin”.

“[This assessment is] based on the vehicle morphologies and material science testing and the possession of unique atomic arrangements and radiological signatures,” Grusch said.

Grey, who, according to the Debrief, analyzes unexplained anomalous phenomena within the Nasic, confirmed Grusch’s account.

“The non-human intelligence phenomenon is real. We are not alone,” Grey said. “Retrievals of this kind are not limited to the United States. This is a global phenomenon, and yet a global solution continues to elude us.”

The Debrief spoke to several of Grusch’s former colleagues, each of whom vouched for his character. Karl E Nell, a retired army colonel, said Grusch was “beyond reproach”. In a 2022 performance review seen by the Debrief, Grusch was described as “an officer with the strongest possible moral compass”.

Nick Pope, who spent the early 1990s investigating UFOs for the British Ministry of Defence (MoD), said Grusch and Grey’s account of alien materials was “very significant”.

“It’s one thing to have stories on the conspiracy blogs, but this takes it to the next level, with genuine insiders coming forward,” Pope said.

“When these people make these formal complaints, they do so on the understanding that if they’ve knowingly made a false statement, they are liable to a fairly hefty fine, and/or prison.

“People say: ‘Oh, people make up stories all the time.’ But I think it’s very different to go before Congress and go to the intelligence community inspector general and do that. Because there will be consequences if it emerges that this is not true.”

The Debrief reported that Grusch’s knowledge of non-human materials and vehicles was based on “extensive interviews with high-level intelligence officials”. He said he had reported the existence of a UFO material “recovery program” to Congress.

“Grusch said that the craft recovery operations are ongoing at various levels of activity and that he knows the specific individuals, current and former, who are involved,” the Debrief reported.

In the Debrief article, Grusch does not say he has personally seen alien vehicles, nor does he say where they may be being stored. He asked the Debrief to withhold details of retaliation by government officials due to an ongoing investigation.

He also does not specify how he believes the government retaliated against him.

In June 2021, a report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence said that from 2004 to 2021 there were 144 encounters between military pilots and UAP, 80 of which were captured on multiple sensors. Only one of the 144 encounters could be explained with “high confidence” – it was a large, deflating balloon.

Following increased interest from the public and some US senators, the Pentagon established the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, charged with tracking UAP, in July 2022.

In December last year, the office said it had received “several hundred” new reports, but no evidence so far of alien life.

The publication of Grusch and Grey’s claims comes after a panel that the US space agency Nasa charged with investigating unexplained anomalous phenomena said stigma around reporting encounters – and harassment of those who do report encounters – was hindering its work.

The navy pilots who in 2021 shared their experiences of encountering unexplained objects while conducting military flights said they, and others, had decided against reporting the encounters internally, because of fears it could hinder their careers.

“Harassment only leads to further stigmatization of the UAP field, significantly hindering the scientific progress and discouraging others to study this important subject matter,” Nasa’s science chief, Nicola Fox, said in a public meeting on 31 May.

Dr David Spergel, the independent chair of Nasa’s UAP independent study team, told the Guardian he did not know Grusch and had no knowledge of his claims.

The Department of Defense did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In a statement, a Nasa spokesperson said: “One of Nasa’s key priorities is the search for life elsewhere in the universe, but so far, NASA has not found any credible evidence of extraterrestrial life and there is no evidence that UAPs are extraterrestrial. However, Nasa is exploring the solar system and beyond to help us answer fundamental questions, including whether we are alone in the universe.”

Pope said in his work investigating UFOs for the MoD he had seen no hard evidence of non-human craft or materials.

“Some of our cases were intriguing,” Pope said. “But we didn’t have a spaceship in a hangar anywhere. And if we did, they didn’t tell me.”

Still, Pope said, Grusch’s claims should be seen as part of an increasing flow of information – and hopefully disclosures – about UFOs.

He said: “It’s part of a wider puzzle. And I think, assuming this is all true, it takes us closer than we’ve ever been before to the very heart of all this.”

Richard Luscombe contributed reporting

If ever a headline has demanded a wide-eyed, scrambling-to-click reaction, it might be this one: “Intelligence Officials Say U.S. Has Retrieved Craft of Non-human Origin.”

A website called The Debrief—which says it specializes in “frontier science” and describes itself as self-funded—reported this week that a former intelligence official named David Grusch said that the U.S. government has spent decades secretly recovering “intact vehicles” and “partial fragments” that weren’t made by humans. (A section of The Debrief is dedicated to coverage of UFOs.) Officials, Grusch said, sought to avoid congressional oversight while reverse-engineering these materials for the government’s own purposes. In a separate interview with NewsNation, which has advertised itself as an alternative to major cable networks, Grusch said the military had even discovered the “dead pilots” of these craft. “Believe it or not, as fantastical as that sounds, it’s true,” he said.

Grusch’s account has spread quickly across social media and been repeated by news outlets including The Guardian, Fox News, and New York magazine, as well as plenty of local network affiliates. And why wouldn’t it be? This story has everything: a seemingly authoritative source spilling secrets about a government operation designed to keep the American public in the dark. Oh, and aliens. The only problem is, there’s nothing backing it up.

Ever since UFOs—now also known as UAPs, for “unidentified anomalous phenomena”—first became a cultural sensation, in the technology-fueled postwar era, people have latched onto stories like this one. The cycle has usually moved this way: Someone with military or government experience comes forward with a strange experience or encounter. They have no hard evidence but, given their background, are perceived by some to be a reliable observer anyway. Tabloids amplify the story, fanning public interest and demanding that the government reveal whatever it must be hiding. Officials deny that they’ve found evidence of extraterrestrial activity, which only fuels conspiracy thinking. “This is familiar territory,” Greg Eghigian, a historian at Pennsylvania State University who has studied UFO culture, told me. And it never leads anywhere concrete.

Read: A new age of UFO mania

The UFO playbook dates back to one of the first major sightings, in 1947, when the pilot Kenneth Arnold said he saw nine flashing objects in the sky over Washington State, maneuvering in strange ways and flying at tremendous speeds. Coverage of Arnold’s account popularized the term flying saucer, and everyone ran with it, including Donald Keyhoe, a Marine Corps major turned writer. Keyhoe claimed that, although he hadn’t seen any of it himself, military officials had studied some flying saucers and concluded that the craft were of alien origin, but they were told to never disclose the facts, Eghigian said. Keyhoe’s writings, which were widely published, cemented two narratives that have become “part and parcel of the UFO world for decades,” Eghigian said: First, that “we have conclusive proof that aliens are visiting Earth,” and second, that “it’s being covered up by the government in some way.”

Grusch’s story is already hitting the same beats. Like Keyhoe, Grusch does not appear to have seen the alleged alien craft himself. He says he has seen documents detailing the retrieval of mysterious hardware, but we, the readers, are privy only to his testimony about what they contain. Although the authors of the article say that Grusch’s comments were “cleared for open publication” by the Department of Defense, all that means is that the remarks do not contain classified information, not that they have been verified to be true. Also, as in Keyhoe’s case, the military denied a cover-up. The All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, or AARO, a Defense Department entity established last year and charged with reviewing UFO reports, said in a statement on Monday that it “has not discovered any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently.”

The problem is, in every instance so far of the UFO-mania cycle, the government, too, is effectively asking Americans to take it at its word. Anything juicier than “We don’t have evidence”—anything that would provide more clarity, even—is classified, and the government has little incentive to share it. Government officials also have a documented history of lying to the American people. “Even when they’ve tried to come clean in some ways over the years, whether it’s declassified materials about Roswell or the new AARO project—it just doesn’t convince people,” Eghigian said. (He’s referring to an incident from the same year as the Arnold affair, when a mysterious craft crashed in Roswell, New Mexico. Even though the military said it was just a high-altitude balloon, alien wreckage has since become a staple of UFO culture.) Grusch’s miraculous claims are unlikely to be proved or disproved; Eghigian describes either outcome as “virtually impossible.”

Before this week, the Keyhoe script played out most recently in 2017, when The New York Times and other outlets revealed the existence of a covert program at the Pentagon dedicated to cataloging UFOs, known as the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, or AATIP. The whistleblower at the center of that story was its former director, Luis Elizondo, who said he quit because of what the Times summarized as “excessive secrecy and internal opposition.” (The authors of the new Debrief story also worked on the 2017 Times piece.) The Times included in its coverage video footage from the Navy that showed unexplained objects moving through the sky. The cycle began to move at warp speed. The public was rapt and suspicious; the government made denials that seemed to only muddy the waters.

The Times coverage and the intense public reaction prompted Congress to hold hearings on UFOs, and to direct defense and intelligence agencies to provide reports on UAPs. That’s another part of the playbook. “Faced with citizens who expect their leaders to demystify the potentially dangerous mystery, the government has historically tried to (not always in good faith),” wrote Sarah Scoles, a science journalist, in They Are Already Here: UFO Culture and Why We See Saucers. The first official government program dealing with UFOs emerged in the late 1940s, soon after Arnold’s account of mysterious flashes. Lawmakers have already begun calling for official meetings about Grusch’s claims of alien wreckage. Any resulting reports and hearings, however, are doomed to be anticlimactic, as lacking in big reveals as other such events have been throughout history. And so we remain stuck. source

Gough is the mouthpiece for the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO), a section of the DOD tasked with investigating and identifying Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP), a government-created phrase used instead of UFOs.

“To date, AARO has not discovered any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently,” Gough said.

Gough also said the AARO, working with the Office of the General Counsel and Air Force Office of Special investigations, has established “a safe and secure process” for people to come forward with information.

“AARO welcomes the opportunity to speak with any former or current government employee or contractor who believes they have information relevant to the historical review,” Gough said.

During NASA’s public hearing on UFO’s last week, AARO Director Sean Kirkpatrick said his office is investigating over 800 cases, but only 2%-5% of the cases are “truly anomalous.”

That revelation pales in comparison to Grusch’s jarring statements about the ongoing, decades-long secret UFO retrieval program, which was first reported by The Debrief.

Grusch, 36, is a former combat officer in Afghanistan who served the National Reconnaissance Office as their representative to Congress’ Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force from 2019-2021.

On Monday, he filed a whistleblower complaint to Congress and the Intelligence Community Inspector General (ICIG) on classified information that he insists proves the recoveries of partial fragments and intact vehicles by the U.S. government, its allies and defense contractors, according to The Debrief’s report.

The recoveries have been determined through analysis to be “of exotic origin (non-human intelligence, whether extraterrestrial or unknown origin) based on the vehicle morphologies and material science testing and the possession of unique atomic arrangements and radiological signatures,” Grusch said.

“We are not talking about prosaic origins or identities,” Grusch said of the information he submitted to Congress and the ICIG. “The material includes intact and partially intact vehicles.”

Many senior and former intelligence officers, many of whom he knew nearly his whole career, began confiding in him and provided documents and other “proof” that they were part of a secret craft retrieval program that the UAP Task Force “was not read into,” Grusch claimed during a separate interview with NewsNation.

“We’re definitely not alone,” he said. “The data points, quite empirically that we’re not alone.”

Grusch told The Debrief that UFO “legacy programs” have long been concealed within “multiple agencies nesting UAP activities in conventional secret access programs without appropriate reporting to various oversight authorities.”

On Tuesday, Fox News Digital spoke to three different people — two experts and a journalist — who backed Grusch’s claims.

Jeremy Corbell, an investigative journalist and documentary filmmaker who was the only civilian named during Congress’ historic UFO hearing in May 2022, said “everything” is true.

Grusch said he began providing hours of recorded classified information transcribed into hundreds of pages, which included specific data about the materials-recovery program to Congress starting in 2022.

“Individuals on these UAP programs approached me in my official capacity and disclosed their concerns regarding a multitude of wrongdoings, such as illegal contracting against the Federal Acquisition Regulations and other criminality and the suppression of information across a qualified industrial base and academia,” Grusch told The Debrief.

Though specific data, such as the locations of recoveries and program names remain classified, and no physical materials have been provided to Congress, several current members of the recovery program have since spoken to the Inspector General’s office, corroborating information in Grusch’s complaint.

“His assertion concerning the existence of a terrestrial arms race occurring sub-rosa over the past 80 years focused on reverse engineering technologies of unknown origin is fundamentally correct, as is the indisputable realization that at least some of these technologies of unknown origin derive from non-human intelligence,” Karl Nell, a retired Army Colonel who worked with Grusch on the UAP Task Force, told The Debrief.
