10 Bible Verses on Clarity of Vision

Here are 10 Bible verses on clarity of vision, including seven actions to help you see the specifics of your God-given calling. Don’t forget to get the checklist to help make sure your vision isn’t premature.

Do you feel called by God, or have a dream, but it’s all still kind of vague as far as what it’s supposed to look like? Do you have a passion inside you that you desperately want to act on, but you can’t see the specifics yet? Just what, exactly, is the secret to that vision becoming crystal clear? Today I’m sharing seven actions that helped bring clarity to mine.

For many years God pursued my full surrender for the call He placed on my life. The stretching was years long. He made adjustments in my heart until a shift took place where the vision unfolded into a crystal-clear picture.

The verses in Habakkuk 2:2-3 tantalized me many times before.

And the LORD answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay. Habakkuk 2:2-3 ESV

During this past year I experienced a shift in my life regarding this verse. During this season, the secrets to the process of the vision God gave me unfolded with remarkable clarity. I took a step back and looked at what I learned in the process.

Necessary Attributes for Clarity of Vision

Remember Samson? The story of his calling in Judges 13 has great insight. You can glean from these Bible verses regarding his story for clarity of vision.

Let’s back up to before he was born. His father’s name was Manoah. The Angel of the Lord appeared to his Manoah’s barren wife, announcing that she would have a son.

So God called Samson to rescue the Israelites from the Philistines. That calling came with specific stipulations. The Angel of the Lord gave the details:

  • Manoah’s wife wasn’t to drink wine or alcohol or eat any forbidden food
  • Samson’s hair must never be cut
  • Samson would be dedicated to God as a Nazarite from birth

What I love about this story is that Manoah prayed for more directions!

Then Manoah prayed to the LORD, saying, “Lord, please let the man of God come back to us again and give us more instructions about this son who is to be born.” Judges 13:8 NLT

It’s a good idea to not just receive the call and get to work right away. Instead, keep seeking God for more directions and clarity of vision.

When God answers Manoah’s prayer and sends the angel back, I noticed that Manoah and his wife had two important traits in their heart:

So Manoah asked him, “When your words come true, what kind of rules should govern the boy’s life and work?” Judges 13:12 NLT

  1. Faith. They believed right away, “when your words come true.”
  2. Obedience. Their hearts were in a position of obedience by asking “what kind of rules should govern the boy’s life and work?”

Faith and obedience are necessary to carry out God’s calling. If you don’t have them, you won’t more readily receive clarity of vision.

Bible Verses to Act on for More Clarity of Vision

Here are some ways to make sure your vision or calling is not premature. I’ve included a Bible verse for more clarity of vision with each action.

Seek

Seek God for His will. You might have a desire to have a clear vision for yourself, your family, health of any area, your job, or even ideas to serve others. God puts His plan into your heart, and as you seek Him you will begin to see how to draw it out.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7 NKJV

Write

Write it down. Just like the passage in Habakkuk says, write the vision. If you don’t know what the vision is, then dump your heart onto paper. Record the desires, passions, and longing in your heart where you can see it on the page in front of you. Even if you can only write phrases, it’s a starting point.

Write the vision…Habakkuk 2:2 ESV

Wait

Wait. The passage in Habakkuk also says, that if there is a delay with it, then wait. I’m familiar with waiting. It’s not exciting. You can probably relate. Yet if God said it, then it is eventually going to be within reach. God has much to bring about in you and me >during the process of waiting.

He could give us a vision, and then immediately show us all the steps and changes necessary to bring it into fruition—but He doesn’t usually do that. He usually plants the seed of a vision inside us. In the meantime, productive actions can be taken during the wait.

Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD. Psalm 27:14 NASB

Rewrite

Write again. After a season of waiting, and becoming more spiritually mature, you will gain more clarity on what God wants for your vision. You will be able to pick up all the pages where you wrote about what is on your heart, and you will see a clear picture. So “make it plain on tablets.”

In other words, write it in great detail. Do this so you will be able to do everything exactly as God commands you. After God gave Noah’s instructions to him in great detail, Noah followed through with complete obedience (Genesis 6:13-22).

So Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him. Genesis 6:22 NLT

Look

Look for confirmations. As you go about your day, listen to the Holy Spirit. Write down those times when He seems to be saying to move forward with what He’s impressing on your heart. And if doubt comes, read your list of confirmations.

You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and [that] your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. John 15:16 NASB

Prepare

Be responsive with preparation.Obey whatever God shows you to do, even if that means you will be stepping out of your comfort zone. You will probably feel uncomfortable, but that is when you have the opportunity to trust Him.

So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. James 4:17 ESV

Run

Run with it at the appointed time. Keep in step with God. It’s wise to never embark on a major move without confirmation. When every bit of what you wrote down is clear, and you have fully prepared, then, and only then, will the appointed time be evident.

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesian 4:1-3 ESV

Moving Forward with Vision

For years I have had a pressing in my heart to see spiritual growth in others, but I had never before had a pinpointed vision. I would try to write out what I was seeing, but it was so fuzzy that I couldn’t run with it. I can share it now.

What about you? Can you answer the same as Isaiah did when God calls your name to work in His kingdom? Will you live yielded to His call for your life no matter what it is?

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here [am] I! Send me.” Isaiah 6:8 NKJV

I hope you will get out your journal and pray through the 10 Bible verses on clarity of vision throughout this post. Pray them over your calling and life. Do the actions to get more clarity of vision, and you will see your calling come to fruition.
